  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

do not go gentle.......

No worries warrior that is sick. Flames and other ideas bounced around in my head too

Yeah, I've thought about laying out a flame job. I can draw, so why not. I have something new I'm gonna try. Will post it when I get my BK2 mod finished.

I am thoroughly impressed by the inventiveness and creativity of this mod. I wholly expect damn near everyone to try it. I haven't scanned the whole thread yet, but I'm crossing fingers for a detailed "how to" guide.

The bad-assery of this mod has no limits. I agree with Moose...Best Mod Ever! Never would have guessed it would come from a BK5 nut....:D

Give this guy a BK11 or something from the stash Moose!

It's not hard to etch something. Place vinyl letters down, or whatever you have in mind, flames, etc. Spray paint over it. Peel the letters back up, and dip it in Radio Shack etchant. It's PCB etchant. Clean off, and strip the paint off. Have never done it before, but there are tuts around Bladeforums.

Damn Clich, that's hotter than the Devils drawers! Been dreamin of what I was going to do to my 9 when it arrives. Something like this would be spot on,although I wouldn't dare to copy your "do not go gentle" motto. Think I'll go with the family motto "Dílis agus Trom" which is Irish for "Faithful and Bold",a perfect description for a BK9 me thinks! Please post a step by step of your process!

Heres how i did it for those interested:

Strip and sand the knife.

Get letter or design stickers from craft store.

Get etchant solution from radio shack

get heavy duty spray paint (like caliper or engine paint)

PLace letters how you want

spray paint one coat, when tacky spray another heavier coat (entire knife including the edge and all) (make sure coats are even so paint doesnt run and seep under the letters)

when slightly tacky remove letters carefully with tweezers paying fine attention to not messing up the outline (i removed when tacky for two reasons one so the wet paint wouldnt run onto the letters, and two so that when i peeled them off they didnt take extra paint with it.)

let sit over night to dry then spray paint the other side two coats

Submerge in etchant soultion. Now depending on how deep you wanna go the time frame is up to you. I did 2 hours since it was on the grind and a deep etch could weaken the blade. a design on the flats i would say leave for double the time. (ps make sure edge is COATED WELL with paint)

Remove from solution and wash with soap and water.

Restrip.

patina as desired, mine is a blue bleach etch where i used vaseline to protect the lettering and the edge. I didnt want the blue bleach etch to cross into the letters and make it unreadable.

the end. its not hard, just takes patience

You did it again Clich. That thing looks MEAN !!!!
I've been on the verge of "cliching" one of my knives
for a bit but can't seem to go through with it because I know
the result wouldn't be what I was going for. Might have to
enlist your services in the near future...

PS. Where's the Cliched Machax ...!!! ??????

Ive got some ideas but it may just be etched on the flats. soft and simple on the eyes, brutal in the woods. although im not set on that yet. We will have to see what my imagination can come up with

Thanks for all the compliments guys, and for networking ctanner!

What if one were to take a fpr tweener not strip it, etch the sig with the etchant, then strip the blade. That way the fpr part is not there as much but the sig would be etched a lot deeper.

yup thatd work, paint the edge tho

really thanks alot everyone. I just remembered wher i got the idea from. Jerry Fisk. He pm'ed me a while back about the etch on my bk5 and he said "ya know what would be interesting? incorporating and Etching words into you patinas." This came from a legend mind into fruition. Thanks go to Mr. Fisk.

that is some serious awesomesauce right there.. i would imagine beckerhead numbers are def. gonna be on some blades now too. i would like to do a trucker girl pattern... sick possibilities now that you opened some eyes. im so into seeing how this level evolves..
