You know, the thought crossed my mind for the briefest instant, but my son had blanched and I thought he was going to go into shock or something, so I sent him away for the paper towels and the phone rather than the camera so I could pull the knife out while he was in the kitchen. However, he had recovered and wanted to see after all.
My dad was a super hardass. One time, my brother and I were with him out cutting firewood in the middle of nowhere when we heard him yelp, chainsaw shut off and him yell for us to get in the truck.
We asked him what happened and he just said "oh, I got a little cut." He drove us home, the whole time carrying on a regular conversation, laughing, driving perfectly fine aside from the jacket he had wrapped around his hand.
He dropped us off and told us to tell my mother it was no big deal and that he'd be back in a little while.
The "little cut" he had was removal of his index finger at the middle knuckle, almost complete removal of his middle finger at the first knuckle (it was hanging on by skin) and the web of his hand between the thumb and index finger was cut through to the bone.
Crazy bastard went to his friends house who was an army medic in Nam' and tried to get him to stitch it up. He made my dad go to the ER.
They put him all back together and aside from loss of feeling in the tips of the fingers, he was OK.
A few years later, I took the first half inch of my finger off with a pipe and a sledge hammer (long, stoopid, story) and I was running around the yard like a chicken without a head.
Same surgeon who peiced my dad back together put my nub back on, saying "Like father like son" the whole time. I wish I had kept my cool like that.

Good cut! When they're ready, take those stitches out yourself. It's an experience i recommend everyone try at least once. Feels weird.
I had a doctor take my stitches out for the first time about a year ago because the Mrs. made me. I thin getting them out is worse than getting them in. I'd much rather do it myself.
