Do not wash your Spyderco Chinese folder in the washing machine. (pics-**cringe**)

Ouch. I left my ZDP/CF Calypso 3 in my pocket and washed it once. Went through the drier too. Didn't realize it until 2 days later when I put those shorts on again. To my amazement (and immense relief), the knife was fine. It's like it never happened.

I've washed my Tasman Salt more than a couple times too (I clip it IWB, so its easy to forget it's still there), but who cares if that happens?

My Dear Friend,

Seriously - contact STR and see about getting it drilled and tapped for larger screws. He will do an exemplary job.

I was curious about the durability of the black finish on the alum.
Not any more! LOL LOL

Have been on (2) waiting lists for 2 long...................:jerkit:

Yours should be an easy fix......

I think it looks good with a bit of character. It has sort of a leather jacket broke in look.
I usually wear a neck knife not a folder so I have not had that issue at least with a good knife although I have heard a gawdafull banging in the dryer from a Buck Odyssey.

I washed my Mcusta a few months ago and it was fine... ish.

The cocobolo was someone dried out butfine over all.

I've never seen a knife come apart like that and I've forgotten plenty of them in the washer.

My Calypso Jnr, in ZDP, went through both the washer and dryer without any visible change.

Well, it was a lot cleaner. :)

Is this the really real Aimless of

flightless penguin fame.

If so, thanks for not banning me over at the "other" site.

ETA: on a serious note. What about red loctite?

There are still some threads left in the scales. I have carried it all day now, and the screws seem to be holding pretty well. Used it to cut some fruit at lunch, and played with it a good bit.

If I use red loctite to secure the scale screws, can't I break it free with a quick touch from a soldering iron if the unlikely need arises for it to be taken apart for service?

Trouble with loctite, if I recall correctly, is that it cures in "anaerobic" conditions; i.e. without the presence of oxygen. So, when you use it on nicely matched threads it works perfectly... not so much if the threads are stripped. Really, you're looking for more of a glue...

As a Lum fan my stomach churned when reading your story. I couldn't imagine running my ZDP Lum through the washing and drying cycles. That will make me check twice everytime I carry mine!!!

WTF? How could you possibly consider this something Sal would need to "make right".
If the knife cant stand a wash cycle without stripping the out the screw holes then to me something is not right. Maybe your standards are different but if it can't stand that how is it going to stand normal usage. Not to mention the fact that it is just good customer service.

p220c,
Please send it back in to us, send it to W&R, but please reference me in a note to them explaining what happened. Please be sure to include all of your contact information.

If you ever need to take it apart again you can just put it in the dryer ;)

If the treads in the scale are stripped the best "fix" would be larger screws. Think perhaps STR might be able to help you. Certainly worth asking.

Actually, I think Sal would try to get you squared away, even though this is obviously not a warranty issue, because the story is amusing and because Sal is a class act.

Just so this doesn't get lost in the mix... Sal's not in right now, but we'd like to take a look at it.
