Do you actually read threads when you post?

This isn't a rant, just a question/observation.

I've started to post this topic about 10 times and always end up deleting it.

In all fairness... it's quite understandable with Rob and Michael's EXTREMELY generous give away threads to just post up a number as soon as you read the thread title.

However, I see posts quite often that make it abundantly clear the poster didn't actually read any of the posts... if even the topic.

So are we all just that impatient?

I usually read all the posts in a thread before replying, but in the case of the Bose or Hampton knife threads, I just read the updates, if post is less than 3 pages, I read all.
Jim
BTW: I am still impatient.

You're kind of taking your rant a bit far. How many people can remember that many numbers, and pick out which ones haven't been picked?

And no, I think the main body of folks on the multiple page threads tend to just post based on the first few questions / responses. As far as contests, hell, I post first then research (just in case :D). I understand what you're saying though. I find it irritating to see someone ask something that A) has already been answered B) has no bearing on the actual topic C) is just pure ignorance and lack of any thought.

Nick had several posts of the numbers that he saw that were left.

No. We "ALL" aren't.
But far too many are.
Then, on top of not even reading the posts, toss in the gramatical flaws from people who can't figure out the difference between "your" and "you're" or "their", "there" and "they're", and I can't even decipher about 1/2 of the posts these days.

Trust me, contests are definitely an exception! :D

I'm thinking of posts like where a guy comes on and says he failed his Js performance test, and then the very next post is a guy saying, "Wahoo! I'm sure you'll pass. Congrats on passing your Js. Are you a mastersmith now?"

;)

I am not even really reading this thread it just looks like I am.;):D Seriousley though I know what you were talking about. I guessed three numbers from my slow loading phone, so I didn't go through the whole thing first. I usually do as to not look impatient.

So true Karl! I admit I get ahead of myself and do it every now and again, but it's sure embarrassing!

Laughed out loud at a "sign" once. Went in to use the restroom and a sign above the urinal read, "Plese flush when your done"

:D LMAO

I just do not do the contests. I do generally read a whole thread before replying (Unless someone really torques me off on teh 5th page of 14, and needs a reply to that

I have read every post on this thread.

Eric, the best steel for that knife you asked about in post number 3 is (of course) rebar forgewelded to HC railroad spike, folded 3 times then carburized in Goddards Goop diluted 2-1 with cod liver oil and 10W40 :D

Yep I read them, but usually backwards. It's like seeing a girl naked before you ask her on a date:D. Besides I am dyslexic, so the posts make more sense to me in reverse:p.

Man, I've tried folding steel just once before and nearly broke my hand. I still don't get how those Damascus makers get all those tight creases. They must use really big vises or something.

By the way, grammatical errors irritate the crap out of me. Spell check is built in for God's sake, look at the squiggly red line and fix it!!!!

Are you for real???::rolleyes:

Nick , I noticed the same thing on many post . It does take some time and patience to scroll thru 8 plus pages but it should be done . In this case with Rob's great offer I can see some ones need to jump in as fast as they can but I also noticed some that came back and changed there guess after they decided to to read the pages and found there #'s where already guessed . You know , the cart before the horse . There was no reason for this since one member was tracking the #'s and posting them . I saw some guessing even after the tracking showed that all #'s from 00 to 99 had been pic.

hehe my # was only pluged once , but I never win anything . Oh well . Good luck to all and thank you Rob for such an offer and fun.
