Do you carry a multitool alongside a modern folder?

I carry a leatherman style on my keys all the time. no blade, I always have at least one knife, but a few other essential tools.

I too live in a remote rural area and I too carry a Leatherman Surge and a modern folder. I also agree the Surge could do it all, but where would the fun be in that? The folder is one of many as, I am sure, is the case with most on here, but I have really gravitated to my ZT0350 and find I carry it most days. I use a knife several times a day on our farm and the ZT has no quit in it.

Outdoor pursuits generally find my Skeletool Cx paired with a fixed blade suitable to the particular event, environment, tasks, etc.

In a past life, before I become so fortunate, I was an office monkey and carried a micra and smaller modern folder or, more likely, a slip joint - usually an old Case.

Leatherman Skeletool Tinker Swiss Army Knife, recently I have started to use the leatherman more than the Tinker

On duty I carry a LM wave (original) with a folder. I use the folder for most cutting tasks but the multi-tool is invaluable for the screwdrivers or pliers.

I carry in my bag a small pry-bar and I do have medical shears but use that only for patients.:D

Yes Leatherman Wave (new) in Alabama Holsters Company kydex sheath which I do not think is made any more. And whatever knife I decide to carry for the day. Today's carry is a VIC SAK Pioneer with Nite Ize pocket clip mod. (this is my most Favorite to carry pocket knife, keep it in right leg pocket of carhartt long pants)

My preferred carry is a ZT0350 and a leatherman Sidekick plus a spyderco spydercard in my wallet that almost never gets used since it's just a spare. Or I might carry a small fixed blade instead of the folder, like a CRKT Ringed Razel.

At work I carry a swisstool spirit with the ratchet alongside a mini grip that I've carried almost everywhere for the last 5 years. My recently acquired manix2 in s110v is about to retire the mini grip though. Generally I'll have my 4sevens flashlight on my belt at work as well.

I've been thinking I should get something smaller to go on my keys. I've been thinking either the SAK manager, SAK rally or Leatherman Squirt.

Maybe try your Skyline or other small folder with a Squirt PS4, S4 or Micra. If you aren't working on an oil platform or construction site, they will handle just about everything you will encounter. Carrying around the heavy stuff can be fun, but consider whether its really needed on a daily basis. For me, its no, and there is a certain liberation that comes with carrying the smallest and lightest tools that still provide good utility. Today I am rocking a Centofante 3 and Squirt S4. That's only 5 or so ounces, but I have my bases covered.

Awesome pic, Mr. smc. I love the look of that Supertool 300, and the Rat 1 rocks too.

Thankyou! I've asked a lot of both of them and both have performed beyond my expectations. I think the ST 300 is THE hard use MT. And although I'm not a big Ontario fan, the RAT-1 has got to be one of the best values in modern folders.

How strong are the pliers on the Style PS, Squirt, and Juice? Would they be fine for things like tightening a bolt/nut on a bike? How strong are the wire cutters?

not terribly, and the trouble would be that because you don't get much grip, you end up rounding the nuts. for a bike I would recommend getting a couple stubby wrenches in the sizes you need, or a small crescent wrench. a little more weight, but a bike kit can be easily secured to the bike, and its a small investment to keep yourself running well. A small plier is still great for other stuff, like bending wire and pulling cables. Just not so great for nuts.

What about the rebar? Would that be better? Or would it have to be even bigger do you think?

I usually carry my Leatherman Blast and a modern folder, usually a Spyderco. I'll occasionally substitute my Opinel or a neck knife instead of the Spyderco.

J1427, I do use my rebar from time to time on bolts, but its never ideal, and I often will grab a wrench if its anything more than a couple turns needed. That said, I'm often running into bolts in the 16-24mm range which is about near the top limit, If all I needed was to grab a 12mm nut it would be much easier. A little extra tension on anything like a wingnut or similar is very easy. I was thinking that axle nuts on a bike would be on that upper end, but that was just a guess.
