Do You Carry "Regardless?"

Hi guys,

I know similar questions have been asked in the past, regarding specific places, scenarios, etc. And perhaps even this has been asked in the past (likely, I suppose).

But in the recent "long road trip" thread had a pretty cool, if somewhat inaccurate "map" of U.S. knife laws (a more accurate version of this would be cool also) and the general consensus is, we've a pretty hodgepodge mix of laws here, state to state.

I'm sure most of us here make it a point to know our state laws, and perhaps every state's laws on this subject. My question is, do you carry what you want regardless of length restrictions, etc? I don't carry switchblades or ballistic knives (illegal in my state anyway) and my state has a pretty lenient view on blade length so I'm usually good... I don't think I've ever gone over because I've never carried a 5" folder.

Just wondering if any of y'all might carry something that isn't explicitly legal, because it's a knife you like, etc. Thanks guys.

Pretty much. If I'm unsure, it's a small inconspicuous slipjoint. I just feel naked without a knife

Day to day, yeah I've carried things that aren't necessarily legal as far as blade length and mostly mechanism (OTF, etc.) with little worry. I worked in a large outdoors store and I saw people carrying just about everything knife-wise, legal or not and at one point saw a customer showing a police officer that was in there his new Microtech OTF. That being said I live in a state that everyone carries a knife mostly and I've never heard of those knife laws ever being enforced here.

Even carry to church because I have to get there and then get home afterward. So,yep, regardless.

How often have you ever been stopped and pat searched? Myself, never. Get it?

Everywhere except the airport, and Fed and State government buildings. I give enough in taxes already, no need to donate my Sebenza or my freedom.

I always carry. Movie theaters in my town have strict no weapons policies and they specifically mention knives. I still carry. I carry at work when I work in schools or federal buildings. It's a tool not a weapon, so yes I carry everywhere.

I carry where ever and whenever unless I have a concern of losing it. Even then I just drop it into the pocket. I dont like autos, or any other crazy knives. But always have an EDC 7-9 inches. I feel naked without. I have been searched once during a DOT stop pulling a trailer. Searched because my partner in the passenger seat had "glossy red eyes". Probably because we worked 65 hours monday through friday at the time without much rest. I had a PM2 I gave him when asked if I had any weapons. I said I have my work and tool and handed it over. All went fine. Since then I have never been asked. In the berkshires things are really relaxed like that.

I was never without some knife of my own since I was old enough to go outside to play without a grownup to watch me.

I worked for the Postal Service in New York City. Never mind the signs about no weapons, in some sections, they had small fixed blades around for opening plastic bands or sheeting or twine. We all carried.

The only weapon I saw in action on the work floor was the time one woman went after another with a broken glass soda bottle. (The "victim" was such a witch, the supervisors never did anything about it, just took the bottle away. :) )

I know you can't post that story here, probably, but my goodness it sounds like a doozy. :)

I carry a knife everywhere all day. When I'm sleeping, a knife is arms length away. Even when I don't have a knife, I'm always armed. I always have a belt with a heavy buckle... steel toed boots... you get the idea.

Out and about, I carry whatever tickles my fancy..... usually my ZT 0600 nowadays. Traveling, depends where I'm going. Rural PA? 0600, or maybe an Adamas. Atlantic City? Um.... slipjoint
