Do You Carry "Regardless?"

I'll tell you a story...

Back when I was married, drinking, and using... I lived minutes walk from my favorite liquor store (and 6 minutes from the grocery store). It was maybe 7AM and I NEEDED alcohol. My liquor store wasn't open yet but the grocery store was... so as I'm crossing the street (at a crosswalk), the only 2 vehicles that were on the road were a Fresno PD and Fresno Sheriff side by side. I'm heavily tattooed, was wearing a Hells Angels support shirt, and had a ZT 9 bayonet on a drop leg sheath.

I walked right in front of both while they were stopped at a red light. Not a single F was given.

Everywhere except Federal buildings, court houses, airports, all those places with metal detectors. Most of those places also confiscate nail clippers/files as well. Today's paranoia drives me nuts.

I've carried a pocket knife for about 60 years and I see no reason to stop now. Main thing is to act responsibly. When you're in public, leave the in-your-face attitude at home.

Yeah. When i was younger I didn't pay much attention to the specific carry laws. I carried a Sharpfinger openly for quite a few years, carried a straight razor zipped into my leather jacket cuff too. I wasn't always the responsible adult i am now. I was stopped once and found with a balisong on me, the cop played with it a second and after i was found to have no drugs (it was a bad neighborhood), he commented "nice knife" and gave it back and cut me loose. A lot that used to be legal isn't anymore. I keep a sharpened E-tool in the truck and under the seat of the taxi i drive, dunno if they're legal but they're for "getting stuck in snow", so I have my excuse set on that already. I used to carry nunchuks, or a knuckleduster sometimes, too, never used em, but when you're strolling through "the hood" on your way to work at 5 a.m. in a work uniform and jacket, no cop bothers to stop and ask, and even if they did, i doubt I'd get grief over it, he's too busy casing the four dope houses on that block to care about what some guy in a Oil and Lube shirt and hat is dong.

In my older age I have mellowed out. I still carry but my appearance and demeanor in public is such as now I dont worry about what I carry. I have had numerous "officials" spot my knife and seem more interested in it for personal reasons than professional.

Even carry to church because I have to get there and then get home afterward. So,yep, regardless.

I carry IN CHURCH. Orlando church just had a shootout between the preacher and the janitor. Preacher Won. I also carry a gun in and out of Church.

To broaden the perspectice a bit. This is how it is up north, in Sweden. I answered "The Lone Gunmen" in another thread when he asked if I legally could carry a RAT 1.

"No Gunmen, I can't. Basically it's illegal to carry any knife of any size whatsoever in Sweden if you can't prove you need it for work or are on your way to hunt, fish, hike, camping or similar activities. So all firefighters, police, military, carpenters, plumbers or any other proffesions that might use knives in there line of work are home free. And to that you can add that there is an extremely large portion of the population over here that is hunters and/or fishermen in some shape or form.

But and there is a big but, no one cares if you carry a knife if you don't show it in public. The police never stops you unless you actually threaten somenone with a knife or done something stupid like taken it to a bar/club or similar. That's why I always carry more than one knife. Often a very small one that I can use discretely at public places and a bigger if needed. And no knife whatsoever if I'm going out for a beer!

So the answer is yes and no I guess. It's not allowed at all but many does it and I have been carrying knives my hole life in one way or another. So does my mother and girlfriend by the way.

I might add that before this current law there was basically none that the police could use for taking away pointy objects from dangerous people before they poked somebody to hard. The law is roughly called the law against "knives and other dangerous objects" which includes pens and pencils if your threaten sto stab somenone with it. So nowadays the police can act preventing."

(hope I can make my self understood. English isn't my native tongue)

Thanks John,

I'm glad to hear that although the laws are strict, no one cares as long as you are a responsible person. You guys make Moras. It'd be a darn shame if you couldn't carry one when you wanted to.

By the way I love your television and cinema (pretty much all Scandi television and cinema.)

NOOICE!

I carry anywhere there's not a metal detector. I'm an older, professional office ninja type, so no one hassles me. On the other hand, I'm not carrying a pair of Voyager XLs, either. I usually have a nice modern EDC clipped to my pocket (and a multitool clipped to the other one). Sometimes, I carry a smaller knife, but since I use a knife so rarely at work it's not a big deal if I don't. Also, I'm in management, so fewer people to screw with me.

I carry everywhere, all the time. I would just feel naked without a knife in my pocket.

I live in a very rural area, so there is that to consider, and I don't really spend much time in anything anyone would consider a 'big city'......

A knife is such a versatile tool that I never know when I am going to need it.....
It's funny how things work, but in the past, on the odd occasion where I didn't have a knife on me for some reason, I could have used one the most.

So, for as long as I can remember, always.

My pocket knife is always clipped to my pants. It's just habit, and it's always used somehow. I open a lot of boxes at home or at work.
I don't travel much, when I do I'll carry in the leather sheath inside my pocket, or I'll bring a cheaper knife that I won't mind losing.

I carry everywhere except gov't buildings. I try to tone it down to just a sak at school, because their weapons policy isn't clear(to me).
The largest I've carried was a bowie with an 8 1/2" blade(it was a phase). I was going fishing with my dad one day, and we stopped at a gas station to refill on coffee. I had the bowie on my hip, and to be clear I'm not the most clean cut individual. I'm in my 20's, have tattoos, large gauges, and a record if they bother looking. As I walk in the store I notice a cop car in the parking lot, and sure enough he was inside. I didn't give it too much thought, and from what I could tell neither did he. I count myself pretty lucky to live in GA. There really isn't anything I would want to carry that is illegal here. Under 5" is just fine by me.

I always check knife laws when i travel. I Edc reguardless of what function I am attending.

I always carry. Movie theaters in my town have strict no weapons policies and they specifically mention knives. I still carry. I carry at work when I work in schools or federal buildings. It's a tool not a weapon, so yes I carry everywhere.

I live in the same town as the famous movie theater shooting by an ex cop over a guy texting. I do not carry in there, they even have signs that say no guns or knives. They do sell liqour so im sure for that reason is why they dont allow carry.
