Do you carry?

I've been alternating between a Benchmade 710, Spyderco Bob T Slipit, Kershaw Junkyard Dog II composite blade, ZT MUDD and large micarta Sebenza, with my Remington Camillus scout knife. The one that still gets the most use is the Remington scout.

Well, I have about 20+ fully serrated Spyderco's , but since I joined this forum I've never carried them.
I still like my Spydies and of some of them I will get never rid of being a Military and Para Military in fully serrated CPM D2 steel.
These are one of a kind gifted to me by Sal Glesser himself
Another one being a Caly III/SE gifted by a fellow forumite.

However for the past months I only carry traditionals. Alternating between my G10 Peanut, Opinel 7 or my newly aquired Douk Douk small.

I guess a change in interest.

Or did I become smart after all? :p

Three things about traditional slipjoints ......... 1) I've never lost one because the clip snagged on something, 2) I've never scratched up anything (a car door, for example) because of the clip on my pocket, and 3) I've never frayed the top of my jeans pocket with the "clip" on a clip-less traditional slippie.

I really don't think of it as a modern vs traditional or that one style is better than the other. I'm just more comfortable carrying and useing my slipjoint pocket knives. Like I said in my first post I have more than a few of the modern one handers that I can't get rid of because I like them so much even though I don't carry them anymore. Carried a small single blade Russell barlow today.

It sounds like you'd be better served under those cold conditions with a scandinavian style puuko. I always figured that was root of the popularity in cold nordic countries, that a small fixed blade is easier to deal with wearing gloves or mittens.

You're right, it would be better... I've put a lot of thought into it, and have a couple puukos too, but can't seem to get back to carrying a fixed blade-- I did for years and it was fine but now they just tend to be too cumbersome to carry, even the smaller ones. a small puuko could be a happy medium though- I shall try again.

I don't think of it as a competition either.

I got's multiple pockets. That means I can carry either or both.

I reckon this is where I fit in too.

Thanks for the thoughtful thread my friend.

Merry Christmas,

I always carry a slipjoint or sometimes a small lockback like the U2

If I also carry a one-hander it because I am not in 'politically correct neighboorhood', and even then it is in my bag only to be transfered if I am 'out and about'.

I always have a one-hander and a slipjoint together. I find that such a pairing not only covers just about anything I'd need a knife for, but also allows me the fun of picking two knives to carry each day. :D

Absolutely!

Today for me its a GEC Pioneer in Banana Peel smooth bone, and a Spyderco FRN Stretch in ZDP.

Never got use to having one clipped in pocket. But, to be honest someone gave me a Buck 340 Small Vantage and I am trying it out since it clips almost out of sight in pocket and its small size doesn't show.
If I needed to go "bear huntin'" or had equipment on that interferred with getting in my pocket I would string a 112 Ranger on my belt. I got where I could hold in blade lock and swing it open releasing lock to catch it. Of course you had to maintain good pivot oil... always had folder in pocket as backup. 300Bucks

I have two one handers that I occasionally carry.

A Spydie Calypso Jr. plain edge in VG-10, and a Dozier Ka-Bar inscribed and signed by Bob himself.

We were talking to him at the Tulsa Gun Show a few years ago, and he gave my little boy one, so I bought one. The AUS 8 steel is surprisingly good, and everything about the knife is incredible for a twenty spot.

They are nice when I am feeding square bales to the horses with gloves on. I can slip one out and cut hay strings without having to take a glove off.

But even if I have one clipped to my pocket, I still carry a slipjoint on me somewhere.
