Do You Collect Knives, Or Do You Really Use Them?

On rare occasions, I see a picture posted of a Becker that has obviously been used as it was intended...most fotos though, are of pristine knives, with perfect aftermarket scales, elaborate lanyards, and exotic aftermarket sheaths...but they are obviously objects of someone's obsession, and not used as the tools that they are. That said, post up your used, abused, stained, chipped, and dirty knives to prove that you do indeed use your knives as they were intended. Have fun, and the dirtier the better.

I usually photograph them new, then use the heck out of them. I have only a couple of collectors in my possession, but the majority get used as much as possible.

To answer the main question: it's simple, I keep some knives for collection, while others are put to use.

All mine are users. I don't have the disposable income to collect knives. I do my 2 doesn't get as much use as my 9 and 14, but they are all users.

I do some of both. I dont buy to collect, but sometimes if I am not as thrilled with a blade it sits while others get used. I do have one or 2 though that I own because I want to just for what they are.

But really, I do use all of my knives, I can't justify buying a knife just so it'll sit in the safe unused. It's a tool and should be used as one.

I personally don't collect much of anything, and knives fall into that "don't" category. I like them, but I like them because I like to use them. I don't beat the crap out of knives, as I don't really need to or want to, but if I'm not going to use something, I wouldn't buy it. I really don't get the point of a case full of unused knives myself, but I don't berate someone else who is into that. I don't have to get it, and I'm sure I do things that don't make sense to them.

So.....not a collector, just a user.

If i wanted to have a bunch of knives just to look at them and be scared to scratch them i'd buy cheapo chinese knock off blades from dx or something.

Personally there's little that i like more than beating the living poo out of good quality knives out in the woods, and i know beckers are somewhat masochistic and actually like the abuse.

Just gotta get me some more becker steel soon. Seems it's impossible to have just one

For me it's a little of column A and a little of column B. If I get a knife and I really like it then I set it aside and order a second one to use.

Just because something's a worker doesn't mean there's no reason to take care of it.

Can't use them all at once, so even tho I have a "collection" and most everyone I know probably considers me to be a "collector", all my knives have been used, even if right now I have an undisclosed quantity hidden away..... I've said it before - what's the point of owning a Ferrari if you never take it out of the garage?

Use them. It kinda pains me when my knives sit there unused...I just look at it like "Well, that $100 or so could have been put to other uses". Though initially when I first started buying knives I'd make them look all nice but ultimately they performed horribly so I took to using them and then seeing how I could mod them.

I'll stop now... but honestly I call what I do collecting... but I collect to use... I have some knives in my safe and put away, but 100% of them have been used and are either momentos or are for my kids when they are old enough.... Beckers just beg to be used...
