Do You Collect Knives, Or Do You Really Use Them?

well, mr becker will take brand new $2000 knives and use them. use them hard. sometimes he laughs.

he always has a user of some model, and sometimes he tucks a copy away.

me? same deal. i bought and USED my first machax - but so well made and easy to clean, you wouldn't know it.

some? yeah, they are cleaned, photographed, oiled, and tucked away.

some? they get used. thing is, they clean up pretty. my main machax, still a SinSin model, is older than some of y'all, and definitely older than most of y'alls kids. if not, it's still old :) works great.

and darn, if KaBar keeps coming out with variants. yeah, i get them. yeah, i put them away. that's the collecting part. getting "one of all" of a series. why not? they're cheap enough compared to some knives, and maybe in 50 years i'll still be around and can buy some hookers and whiskey with them :D
 
All my knives are used regardless of price.

Im a chef also, but all my nice folders see the outdpors regularly and get scuffed up.

I have some of both, Users and Queens. It is an ever evolving group, some Users become Queens, some Queens become Users. I hava a BK-15 inbound that will go right to the User side.

Like others - some of both. But the vast majority of my collection are users in the sense that they are used and not coddled. I do have a small number of knives that I bought specifically as safe queens, but not that many. Like most of you guys (I suspect), some knives see far more use than others for a variety of reasons. For example - I have a Spyderco Military (camo/black) that I just do not like. It has been in its box almost since the day I got it. So not a safe queen but not actually a user, either.

My BK7 is probably seeing more real use than any other fixed blade that I have. That will probably change some when hunting season starts as I have a couple of hunting knives that I am very fond of and have used for years. Those are sitting, patiently waiting for their turn to come back around.
 
I use my 11 more than any other knife but its not heavy duty stuff - unless batoning through an apple core counts?

The 9 rides on the side of my Rush 24 - ready to use if I need it which has only been a few times.
