Do You EDC Higher End Knives Like Sebenza?

I have a new (to me) Sebenza 21 (small) that is like new. I have a new Sebenza 21 (large) Glorious on the way to me. I am just wondering if those of you with higher end knives (let's say $300 on up) actually carry & use those knives. I plan on the small Sebenza being part of my edc knives but just can't see me doing that with the Sebenza Glorious. Kind of curious what others do.

Why buy a knife like that and not use it? It's not a one off custom. It's a production knife.

I have EDC'd and used knives up to $2200. Why that number?

That's the most I've spent on a knife.

I have a $1300 DDR custom in my pocket right now.

I carry and use knives. No matter the cost. I've used some stuff that would make people shake their heads.

I am also on the Washington Coast. Whereabouts are you?

The sebenza is an easy call: it's made to be durable, the finish wears well, and it's easy to completely disassemble and clean after its covered in gunk. It's made for use and holds up well. I have carried them for years and scratched them all over, and they have held up well.

If I paid hundreds for something with a fragile finish (such as a soft-ish steel with a mirror finish, or a shiny acrylic scale that will lose lustre quickly) I may not carry it, because it would lose the qualities I bought it for.

But then again, that's why I generally don't buy very shiny knives, and I have several CRKs instead.

Absolutely do! :D
Here is my current rotation:

Enjoy your Sebenza 21!!!

Some guys collect, others use, a few do both.

CRKs are nice knives, but (like most knives) they work far better as tools than as investments. Sure, some CRKs will bring more money than they MSRPed for, but they were stored in a safe for the better part of a decade or more...and they are not bringing more than what most financil managers would recommend investing in;)

If a knife brings you joy by looking but not using and you can get your money back out of it someday, some would call it a successful investment. I would not disagree, but I (personally) get far more satisfaction from carrying and using.

Here is a photo of a one off custom necker, a custom straight razor, and a DT Sebenza. I could care less what they are worth...they are nothing to me if I cannot use them, and I do so frequently. I happen to know two guys locally that own super cars (a McLaren and a Lamborghini) One guys drives his daily, the other NEVER drives his. Which one do you think is crazy?

I carry my knives no matter the cost. If I really liked them and wanted to keep it mint then I'd buy two. One to carry and one to keep tucked away.

I'm actually contemplating buying a BM Gold Class 710-142 which is over $500. As long as that Damasteel holds up I would EDC it.

I carry this CQC 9 everyday.

Custom knives & higher end productions are built to perform well. It would be a shame to not experience that because they're languishing in a drawer or in the safe.

No sense in trying to preserve the value of your knife by keeping it locked away. If you do, then you're not getting your money's worth out of the knife. There's no guarantee that decades from now, today's customs or high end productions will have any value at all, or that folding knives will even be relevant.

I carry and use an Emerson Tiger everyday. Have done the same with Sebenza's, TSF Beasts, Ferrum Forge Ferox, and a number of others.

I almost always have my small 21 on me. My large 21, I don't seem to carry it as much as I could, it is in my rotation but I find myself rather carrying one of my Spydercos. I have a 3" Hinderer XM-18 on the way and I fully plan on making that my permanent EDC knife. If I like it enough it may even bump the small 21 out of my pocket for a bit :D

I use to get really bent on keeping knives pristine. I had a couple edc blades and the rest were toys. Then i woke up and realized all i had were a bunch of really really expensive paperweights and that i was really missing the best part of owning a high end knife which is using the thing. You cant have both. You either live with scratches and look at them as your knifes earned scars or you sit in your room wiping off finger prints wondering if your collection is even worth having. At one point my collection was worth more than my car and i wasnt driving a clunker. Now i am a bit different. I have a $400 cap. Anything over that and i probably wont buy it. Anything under and im going to enjoy it. Because at the end of te day when i go to catch and release my worn knives rarely bring more than a knife that has been loved on. So why worry about protecting a nonexisting investment? The first scratch hurts the worst. Its at that point my fondness quickly fades or actually increases. And that is when you know you have a keeper.

All of these are carried and used. I'm too old not to carry and enjoy them.

I didn't see anyone mention yet. If you do something to your Sebenza that you can't live with, you can send it in to CRK for a spa treatment. Bringing it back to Near new.

Some of my CRK's are daily users and some are safe queens. I have an EDC rotation and collector pieces.
