Do you flick?

I own an Italian Steletto(Non-Auto)(My Favorite) which i can now flick it out by snapping my wrist without touching the blade and can almost bring it back in the same way.

Hi. My name is Nakano. And I am a "flickerholic".

For those who insist on hearing a THWACK! instead of the click after you flick, try a Spyderco Tim Wegner! More of a "ker- chunk"! to quote a fellow forumite. Ah, instant gratification.

My favorite flicker is the Vaquero Grande. Man, what a "clack" that one makes - very satisfying.

It all started when I was a kid. You know, I watched that movie "My Friend Flicker"!

Been doing it ever since.

Depends on the knife -

Benchmade Spike jumps out of the handle. Super fast.

BM Stryker and Emerson are better with just the wrist flick.

Spyder Wegner is great fun for spyder drops, which are even faster than flicking (and scare the straights even more!).

Spyder Lum commands too much dignity and respect to be opened with such brute methods. It is gently and smoothly rolled into place with a quiet, but definitive click.

I too am a Flickerholic in private or around fellow Edge enthusiasts. I typically carry a Mini Stryker or a Mini Socom and except for very special social situations never touch the thumb stud.

Of course, the coolest flicking knives today are the BM Axis locks because they can be Opened and Closed without ever touching the Blade.

Is opening a Ken Onion Speed-Safe considered flicking?

Count me in! Another addicted flicker here. I love the sound of it. I recently got a BM Ascent 840 that I can't put down. Just a flick of the wrist is all it takes, no blade touch, nothing......I love it!

Yep- I guess I'm one too- The "Home Office"
hates it when I play w/ the Vaquero while watching TV- Here at work just this week I forgot where I was (office) & racked open the Wegner to open a box- Big Eyes all around. I'm the new guy here & I think I've been pegged as a Nutjob. But hey- Gotta Love that sound! Almost like the action on a 1911 snapping shut. mmmmmmmm nice.

Aaron: Yes I do believe that the Ken Onion Safe Speed folder qualifies as a "flick". In matter of fact I enjoy flicking this knife because it is so effortless to do.

I enjoy the feel if this factory folder for flicking a fury of fast flicks and one-handed folds.

Things are starting to get a little blurry. I better get my eyes checked. I hope I don't scare the eye doc with my VG.

Flicking is fun, and a quick way to deploy a folder in a hurry, but I agree with Corduroy: it trashes the knife's lock work. I've talked to quite a few custom makers and they all recommend avoiding this technique. I guess if we're talking about run-of-the-mill production folders, who cares! Flick away. I doubt that too many of you want to prematurely wear out your good knives though. Most liner-locks are comparatively fragile. They have a limited life span. Flicking cuts this down tenfold.

Just think of all the things that you shouldn't do but you do anyway because it's just too much fun.

Remember an occasional flick never hurt anyone, in fact it's healthy. If your flicking becomes and obsession (In the shower or waiting in line at the bank) you may want to seek professional help. Too much of anything is not good. Just stay away from CRACK! Cracking your knife open is bad. We all know CRACK KILLS!!!

I heard Larry Chew, DA folder maker extrodinaire, asked once about flicking his knives. He said that they are strong enough to take pretty much any flicking. The only possible problem would be a really strong flick might set the spring off, but that wouldn't cause any damage.

Don`t flick it too much or you`ll go blind! I usually flick open the knife I`m going to carry that day before I clip it to my pocket. This serves to remind me what force is required to emergency-open a particular knife.Moderation seems to be the key.I don`t think a little flicking is too hard on a user-grade knife, but a steady diet will cause loosening and premature wear.

I got a genesis 2 and flicked it a few times and loved it, but I stopped cuz it was wearing the liner down a lot. I now open it with the stud the whole way or push really hard on the stud and let the whole thing open up. the liner is almost on the right edge of the tang and I can see where the lienr is worn away after only about a month of owning the knife. Does EDI sell replacement liners???

Okay, I'm a Flickaholic. I sit at night in front of the idiot box, deploying my Whirlwind or Military or Axis a hundred times a night. Does anybody else flick while reading the threads here on the forums? I do. Incessantly. I almost hate to put the knife down to type. Is there a patch or something for this?
