Do You Forge Hawks ?

If I wasnt embroilied in a couple blades right now (#2, 3, 4 and 5, yeah i'm wicked new to this all) I'd take you up on a starter kit, having never done a hawk... then again I've hardly done a blade lol! As it is, I have too little time in the shop as it is to do what I want.

That being said, I'd like to thank you for giving others the opportunity, and making it contingent on their posting pictures =) Seeing pictures of things like that is a huge inspiration to myself, and I'm sure many others. I'm looking forward to seeing what people end up making =)

Hey, I'm another newbie really, but I've been thinking hard on making a hawk. I'll grab one of those kits if you'd be so kind. I'll drop an e-mail your way now.

I wouldn't even have thought about trying for those handles before they ran out, but for the record, that's an awesome thing to do, thanks for being so generous with some seriously valuable, in a historical/sentimental and I would imagine monetary as well, wood.
Says something for the knife making community that this type of thing happens.

I got everything cut up this weekend and will start shipping them out over the next couple of days. I took one of the kits and forged a camp axe today. It took about two hours.
There are still several hawk kits left.

Thanks Stacy. We newbies are going to use it on our collaboration set for a War veteran. We feel it is a suitable way of using wood from "the Master".

If you have one of those hawk kits left, I would like to take advantage of it.
I have never forged one before, but have a found a friend that has who will assist.
I would be more than happy to post pictures of the results to this board (good or bad) :) .

Will send email with details.

Thanks,
Rob Dobbs

Sounds great! I was fortunate enough to come into some real 19th century iron and right now forging a hawk!

I volunteer at a living history museum in Kansas as a Blacksmith. They have a coal forge that I use to make my knives and tools.

The hawk I am making has an iron body but will have a steel insert made from a recycled file.

The maple handle would rock!!:D

Will do Rob.
I think all the handles are gone, and there is one kit left.
Stacy

abotar, send me an email.

I recieved a piece of some of the nicest curly maple I have ever seen this morning, and to know that Bill Moran had it milled makes it even more that fascinating. I want to thank Stacy for doing this. Thats what I like about the knife making world and this forum lots of help and sharing people here. So a big Thank you goes out to Stacy. I will post pics of the hawk when completed.....Stuart.

Hello Stacy, Received the hawk kit today. I cannot thank you enough for giving folks the opportunity to use these materials. I'll be sure to post pics of the results. Again Stacy, THANK YOU for your generosity.

Stacy i recieved my handle material today. Awesome chunk of curly maple. I will keep you informed as i get this project going.
Many Thanks Bob

I didn't even know if I had made "the list" of folks to get a hawk kit till I got a note from the PO saying I missed a package. Got out and picked it up this afternoon. Thanks Stacy, I'll try to do something cool with it. Like I said in my first post, I haven't made a hawk yet, but I've been thinking about it alot. My wife said I sounded like a kid on christmas when I told her what the package was on the phone, hehe. Incidentally I didn't catch how you want payment for the hawk kits, paypal, check, etc, and same addy if paypal?

Rob Dobbs? Are your first initials JR by any chance?

Thank you sir
Syn

Bump, hoping for an answer, sorry I don't have PM priviledges or I wouldn't bring it back up to the top. Just let me know how you would like payment and I'll get it to you. To awesome a gesture to let me go and forget about it.

Or drop me an e-mail j.shank@netzero.net
