Do you guys drink tea?

My mom is Welsh; so I grew up on hot tea with milk and sugar. Still have a pot of tea in the AM; sometimes again at tea time.

I have been a pretty avid tea aficionado for the last few years. Right now, I'm actually drinking a cup of Yerba Mate, which I blended from half Organic and half Mint-organic. It lets it taste a little less minty, but still fresh.

Within arms' reach, I have a lot of tea, for every occasion. Most is loose-leaf (tastes way better IMO). Here goes:

Bags:
-"Constant Comment"
-Bombay Chai
-Cheap Jasmine
-Cheap Darjeeling

Loose (da good stuff):
-Mint Yerba Mate Organic
-Yerba Mate Organic
-White Darjeeling Organic
-2nd Flush Darjeeling
-Autumnal Flush Darjeeling
-Jasmine Tuocha
-Olive Jasmine
-Ceylon Silver Striped
-Moroccan Mint
-A really good Chinese Green
-A nice Golden Xuan Oolong

That about does it. A nice collection, and one that I use all the time. As I said, I'm a tea nut. But that's not to say that I don't appreciate good coffee, too. You may notice I love Darjeeling. Awesome with milk and sugar or without. My favorite.

I'm also thrilled, because the tea shop I patronize is sending its management to India in the next couple of weeks to find new Darjeelings. Man, sounds good to me!

I'd characterize it as a bit more astringent and earthy. Maybe a little less "sweet." Still a very vibrant tea, but in a different way. Both great, but I think I prefer the second flush myself. By the way, if you like darjeeling, you should really try a white darjeeling sometime. It's so delicate compared to a second flush or something, it's just incredible. Kinda hard to find, but worth the search in my opinion!

Cheers,

Chris

All this talk of tea comes at the perfect time. I've just been on a tea kick myself, and this is a nice thread to complement that. I'm sipping on a lovely cup of Ceylon Silver Striped right now, and life's pretty good :) .

Bottoms up,
Chris

you should really try a white darjeeling sometime.

:D

My tea house has this one: Darjeeling Rohini 2nd Flush bio. PP-42

I'll try it next time I go.

I once tried a oolong darjeeling... not impressed at all, they should let oolong teas to the chinese.

Any of you tried a nepalese tea?

From the Chinese to the British to the nomadic Tuareg serving tea is an honoured tradition. Being interested in the history of things it was surprising to find out that tea was more valuable than gold at one time. It also helped establish the British empire.

Since I wasn't a coffee drinker people sometimes offered me tea , usually black tea which is about as appealing as drinking out of an old boot. Girlfriends then came along who bought herbal teas which I drank if only to get to know them better :) Anyway I've come to like regular green tea , it has a delicate pure taste that I've yet to tire of. Spearmint tea is also quite good.

+1 on the Ginger tea. I also alternate with organic peppermint and camomile . My body will no longer tolerate any of the others.
I'm a firm believer in ginger tea for taking care of common stomach ailments. It's an aquired taste but I kind of like it now.

I like just about every tea, as long as it's unsweetened. I particularly enjoy peppermint and Four Seasons' "Zinger" varieties. Green, black, oolong, herbal...it's all good.

I love coffee, but might have consumed more tea over my lifetime.

I like all teas except those containing oil of bergamot (Earl Gray).

My favorite tea is Ginger, but I like sweetened (powdered) ginger tea, so I wouldn't drink more than one a day, unless I was sick.

My other favorites are fruit flavored herbal teas, especially with a strong fruit flavor, and mint tea.

Back when my body was more sensitive, I would usually get a buzz from a strong cup of green tea. It was very different from what I'd get from coffee, even though the coffee holds more caffeine.

Here is a picture of a box full of teas and hot sauce that I put in the chow hall two weeks ago.

I truly love good sweet tea, but it's rare to find a place with really good sweet tea. Sweet tea should be strong, sweet, and have a touch of lemon. One of the best sweet teas in Augusta is in Kinja Sushi, which is run by some Koreans I know.

This is the stuff. I'm used to generic, or Irish/English breakfast teas, plus the occasional celestial seasoning stuff. But it is GREAT.
