Do you hate it when knife companies discontinue models you really like?

This is one thing that bothers me a lot, especially with Spyderco and ZT. There are certain models they have that they discontinue and it pissed me off when I missed the boat on them. Not sure why they feel they need to do this.

No, not at all, because if I like a model so much I'd buy it when it is still available and if I already bought the model it does not matter to me if it is discontinued or not (to collectors and flippers it could even be a good thing).

True as value goes up for discontinued models. But if you miss it, that sucks.

Heh, YUP! Should have bought that mini rukus user when no one was buying them. Never would have thought that one would spike to current values. The re-issues don't have the micarta that were the cool part.

Yeah... When ZT discontinued the 0301 and 0560 I was extremely disappointed.

No. For collectors, which I'm not one or I don't consider myself one, that's part of the allure of being a collector. Identifying the hot item and getting it and gloating that you have one when everybody else wants one but can't unless you sell it to them.

For the utilitarian user, the perspective is new technology will come up with an equal or better design and you just have to rough it out until the one that fits your needs show up and becomes available.

I've almost come to expect it. BK15, 5, 4, Mini Tuff Lite, CRKT Carson F4, Kimura, one version of the Shuffle, even the Kershaw 1530 G10 Hawk that I didn't even know existed until after it had been discontinued.

I just wish I bought a ton of Benchmade 42 when they were available

You and me both. I had up to four of those and sold them all for about what I paid. Then I get out of the knife thing for a few years, come back, and discover people are paying 5-8 times what they cost when I had them.

Yeah, not to happy with Benchmade right now. They just dropped the Stryker series. Personally, I feel that it is one of their best knives.

Wish I had known about the Ontario Bagwells when they were still in production. So buy what you like now and if you like it alot buy a few more.

Stryker hell... where's my AFCK? And all of that bargain HK stuff?

Oh and Spyderco, the Jess Horn models were just fine where they were... on store shelves.

And how 'bout Camillus USA and Schrade USA? They discontinued the whole shootin' match!

Yeah, I shake my head sometimes.

Yes. Just simply yes. Not all of my currency goes to fund my knife purchases and that is typically where I miss out on those Sprint runs, discontinued models and such. Essentially I need to fix my income to debt ratio lol

There is usually something else of equally good value when something is discontinued. But the one knife that I distress over being discontinued is the Victorinox Adventurer model. It currently is available as a Boys Scout knife. When I discovered that the Adventurer was discontinued, I bought three or four of them to keep which should pretty much hold me for the rest of my life.

Yes, I'm fond of the Victorinox Adventurer too (especially after it was prominently displayed strapped to a U.S. soldier on the cover of Newsweek magazine) and kept a pristine specimen set aside for the day it finally reached the end of its life cycle. That's why I also made it a point to pick up a couple of the now discontinued Craftsman models. Wish that as a kid I had the foresight to save for more than one of the original Space Shuttle versions.

So friggin' much!
Cold Steel discontinued the Talwar series last month, and niw they announce they're discontinuing my favorite line of theirs, the Hold Out!!!
