Do you hate it when knife companies discontinue models you really like?

Yeah. I don't fight the collector label, but I don't buy knives with an eye towards flipping them, or to keep them pristine or as investments (nothing against those that do, though). Given that, companies discontinuing a model gives me no benefits but may well deprive me of a blade that I would very much like. (Bring back the Rukus, Benchmade! :()

Oh?

One of these one of yours? I got them used off of ebay.

Actually, I did just recently get the Stryker off Ebay, display no box, for less than $100 after hearing it was being discontinued. The knife was.. brand new. Serrated, not my preference but I'm okay with that. I never cared for the design before, but it indeed is awesome now that I have it. The simple lines in the handle are what do you say geometrically beautiful.

No regrets and a nice addition. 154cm oldie but goodness.

The handle is what does it for me. Would love to see a FFG drop point mini stryker as a gents knife.

Yeah, not too happy with Benchmade right now.

How was I to know that when the Ares came out that (IMO) it would be the high water mark for Benchmade. Yes, it had a long lifespan and there were many limited editions but in the years since the knife went away I look at the Benchmade line and every new knife is fuglier than the previous one. Its like they truly just don't give a shit about esthetics anymore which is sad because that's the thing that will draw me into a particular knife and get me to buy it. Then I'll carry and evaluate it as a tool. The Ares scored high for me in every respect unlike the couple other newer models I tried. I still own one Ares and those newer models, they're gone. It sure would be nice to be able to buy a new Benchmade production Ares...at retail price.

Sanrenmu and Enlan do it all the time, without any warning or advance notice. I've pretty much gotten used to dealing with the uncertainty of it already when buying from these two Chinese brands.

For American brands, CRKT also does that occasionally. And BTI is now doing that with the Schrade brand.

Do I hate it? No, i can't say i really 'hate' it. But one thing's for sure; if it's discontinued, I won't buy any of the remaining stock from retailers or resellers, regardless of how low the clearance price may be. And if I already happen to own a discontinued knife, I will no longer use it anymore.

So friggin' much!
Cold Steel discontinued the Talwar series last month, and niw they announce they're discontinuing my favorite line of theirs, the Hold Out!!!

See? Another one to add to my list. I believe this leaves just the Secret Edge to represent the Sgian Dubh in CS's product line--unless they've discontinued that one, too, and I just haven't heard yet. Maybe they'll revive one of the older designs?
