As the title says, is there a particular blade steel that you seem to favor more than others. Some steels are more suitable for certain tasks because of their characteristics, such as H1 being a perfect divers blade since it is rust proof. If there is a certain steel that you would consider your favorite, let us know which one it is and why. Be sure to participate in the poll, sorry about the limited options but I listed a few of the more common steels.

I have S30v, 154cm, vg10 and H1. I think I like the VG10 the best. I've had chipping with S30v from both Spyderco and BM, chipping on my mini-grip, and VG10 is easier to sharpen than my H1 SE Tasman. It works for me.

Depends on what I am using the knife for. I don't know if I have a favourite, but there are definitely some I prefer.

Thanks for the replies so far, I wish the poll would have allowed me to list a few more options. My all around favorite steel would probably be S30V followed by VG10. They both hold a decent edge and are very corrosion resistant.

s90v is my most favorite steel. but enjoy many others. not a fan of 8cr and various other budget steels unless the heat treatment is optimal (lul)

For a budget steel, I like Sandvik 14 series.
I also am beginning to enjoy D2 steel a little but it seems to be a bear to sharpen.

Were you limited as to how many steels were in the survey?

Yes, it only allowed me to post 10 options in the poll.

Couldn't decide between M4 and M390. Although I prefer different steels for different uses, so my favorite can be any/all of the above, depending.

Most of my favorites aren't on the list. 52100, W2, O-1, 3V, Cruwear/PD#1/Z wear, 4V and a few others. Sticking a pin right in the middle I'd say CPM Cruwear. Noticeably better grain and tougher than old Ingot version yet still retaining the wear resistance. A more ( slightly) wear resistant 3V. Almost as tough if you run it that way. It takes a slicey edge like 3V too.

so far? spyderco's CTS XHP. i only have the domino as a sample but that steel is awesome. easy to sharpen gets crazy sharp and stays sharp for a pretty long while

Any steel can be the "best" steel for a certain application. It would be really easy to choose M390 as the best steel, but for EDC it is not the one for me. I chose S30V (but really prefer S35VN) because it is slightly tougher and slightly easier to sharpen. If all a person does with their knife is slice grapes on a cork cutting board, something like S110V would be the bees knees. The more diverse use the blade sees, the more helpful it is to have a more diverse blade material.
