Do you have an +$100 EDC..?

Just about all my knives get used, the only ones that don't get carried are my autos, and my bm skirmish. I've never bought a knife purely as an investment, or just as a collector piece. Right now I have a large sebenza 21, and an Emerson cqc-7 in my pockets.

My Benchmade Griptilian 551S was a 100$ knife at my Local knife shop. It sat in the box for a while until i convinced myself it was indestructable. Then i carried it for a while and it bit me in the finger pretty bad (my only tip-up knife) and so i retired it again. Recently took it out to use again, i took the blade out to clean the washers and blade and re-lube it all and loctited the pivot screw and bent the clip so it's tighter so it doesn't move position on my pocket or fall out god for bid im hanging upside down (i'm 21, i still do that kind of stuff!). So yeah, i've started carring it again. I got the clip the way i like it now [tight] and the blade is perfect. I can flip it open with the lock only and have it just reach everytime, which to me means that its perfect because i don't flick hard, or i can smoothly deploy it with a quick flick of the thumb studs. The blade doesn't come out easy when I jerk the knife down so i'm confident it won't open in my pocket. Sorry for the long post, i got carried away lol. Another knife i bought for less than 100 but more than 70 and i consider a 100$ edc is my kershaw blur.

I don't own a single knife that's worth less than $100, so I guess the answer to your question is yes, I carry knives that cost more than $100. I don't use all of them (especially some of the pricier Randalls), but good knives are made to be used.

I've got a few like that -
Spyderco Orange Military
Spyderco BG-42 Military
Spyderco D2 Military
PML custom FB wharnie
Spyderco Big Persian (although I actually have 3 of those, only one sits in the box)
Spyderco Kris (yup, I admit I have a backup to this one too)

These all get regular EDC use with the Millies being my faves.

I use them all. I can't afford safe queens. I have several $100+ knives from Benchmades, Spyderco's, Sebenza, and a couple of customs, they all get worked into the EDC rotation.

Nah, I've never carried a $100 knife. "Replaceability" is a primary criterion for carry knives, and it'd sting to cough up a hundred bucks every time I lost a pocketknife. And regardless of cost, there aren't any $100 knives that meet or exceed the personal history, appeal, or function of my Old Timer. :)

Wife bought me an expensive pocketknife recently for a gift, on the condition that I carry and use it. I never did... :(

My current edc is a Benchmade 710D2,so yes I do. I figure I'm not going to live forever and I might as well enjoy the nice things while I'm still this side of the ground.

microtech combat troodon, Ludt, and scarab. I find it hard to keep a knife in safe queen condition. Even if its a knife i dont use for cutting it will take its wear and tear just by operating it. I didnt have this problem until autos became my primary focus of my collection.

Yes. Current EDC rotates between Hinderer XM-18's, Strider SNG or SMF.

I am the opposite of the OP. I find myself buying less expensive knives like Spyderco's, Kershaw's, and Benchmades and then not using them! They sit in a drawer or get flipped opened and closed but not carried. Then I sell them in a few weeks.

Life is short, why not use and enjoy the best of your collection. If you don't then the next owner will!!!

Current EDC's...

Just curious.. I have a SNG CC exactly like yours. But I am thinking about getting the gunner grip. Which do you prefer to carry more? Do you find the edges on the slim CC cut into your hands a bit? Do you like the thicker handle of the reg SNG better?

I just received mine yesterday and maybe I have been playing with it to much.

I can sympathize with someone who feels that a knife is to good looking to use. I’ve been going through my collection and its amazing how many of them are NIB. However if I like the knife as a user I’m not going to be denned the joy of using it just because it was expensive.

Another reason I like to carry expensive ones is if you carry them enough they only cost you pennies a day. In 400 days a $400 dollar knife only cost a dollar a day to enjoy. In 800 days, 50 cents. and on and on. Makes a Sebenza seem pretty cost effective if you think about it.

OH, Son-of-a-B#$%......don't give me any more ways to rationalize the money I spend on knives.........

:p

When I get a knife, it comes out of the box, the box goes in a drawer, and the knife gets into the rotation somehow. I don't disagree with admiring them on the shelf, all in a nice row, but I love knowing I have a quality knife on me, even though sometimes the less expensive ones escort me on my daily travels.

I have about 50 pocketknives in my collection. I think 2 are above $100. One is a California legal automatic the other is a Spyderco Kopa. The Kopa gets carried every now and then but not too often. The auto almost never gets carried.

I carry and use my Emerson,Manix, and Al Mar Sere on a regular rotation.I also carry my custom Erickson slipjoint a lot. I always have my custom Brian Goode Companion when I am in the woods. I feel like when I spend that kind of money , why not use it?:)

Oh yes, I carry my custom knives, all of which are way over $100.00. I carry and use them. I get the most pleasure out of using them. I know I can send them back to the maker for rehab, if need be.

hmm... 2 100+ dollar flashlights EDC'd daily, at least one, usually 2 knives over that mark. Lately: CF caly 3 and captain, or UKPK.

I have plenty of knives under that mark that get edc'd regularly as well, but lately, it's been those 3.

my answer is yes it is my most expensive knife to date...
A '04 Schatt and Morgan Wildcat Driller, i forced myself to EDC it and i still carry it once in a while, kinda like having a folding sword:D its huge and definitely an attention getter:D
knives are intended to be used, carried and develop their own story otherwise its really not that much fun, at least for me...
