Do you have an +$100 EDC..?

I must say I really like this knife, but I am not up on it - how much does one go for, and how difficult is it to get..?

extremely difficult to get, ie at a reasonable price. the gen 1 like jaxx's even more so.

direct from the maker i believe they run under $400.00, but he doesn't take any orders.

a few places like plaza cutlery and arizona custom knives are hinderer dealers, but you have to be pretty quick to snag one.

i bought my semi production here on the exchange. overpaid a bit (relative to retail), but well worth it.

Nope.

1. I'm cheap
2. I'll admit I'm scared of losing an expensive toy.
3. For my basic EDC tasks, a BM MiniGrip, Spydie Delica, or Boker Trance is "good enough" for me.
4. I'm still new enough to the knife thing that quantity > quality for now. I'm sure that will change over time but I keep telling myself I can get a red class BM, Kershaw, and a Spydie off the forums for the cost of one better knife. I'm still exploring different makes, manufacturers, and styles of knives.

If I have a lot of cutting to do I'll carry my Manix or Rukus, but generally I carry lighter weight knives. My UKPK probably sees the most pocket time. I've also used my STR BUSTR a lot lately. If I need something big and bad I'll carry my Rijbak.

I think I took a pic of a Hinderer at the knife show a few months ago and didn't realize what it was a liked it then - this is the Hinderer XM-18 if I am not mistaken, correct..?

If you dont use your nice ones, whats the point in paying so much!?!?!?
the mentality/purpose of buying knives is different for everyone. To some, the point of buying an expensive knife is to have it as a collector's item where it will increase in value only as long as it is kept in perfect condition. Some people like to trade knives, and they can go down in value substantially when there are obvious scratches or wear marks.
And what about those who would just like to one day, pass down a fine collection of knives to a son maybe?

Well I got rid of all my knives and have restarted again, just customs, plus a leatherman, and I edc them when not carrying the leatherman. They were designed by me and made to my specs, well over a hundred bucks and they get used without fear or compromise, why have something if you are not going to use it? I do not understand that, you are not getting any younger you know?

Why would anyone spend over $100 on a knife to not use it? Usually, unless its an art knife, the money spent into materials and research goes into making a knife that will be better in terms quality and performance. Expensive blade steel or handle material often costs more because its better when USED lol. I always find it funny when a person spends so much on customs only to keep them in their safe. I can see if its a first production run or art knife but if I invest money on a knife it will def be used. Every knife I have has been used and used daily if I edc it. I have a 1st production run bradley mayhem that I absolutely love using. Sebenzas are $300+ and theyre specifically meant to be used. Ill never buy a knife just to keep it in my safe.

BIG +1 on that, safe queens=weak.

I once kept some 100 plus as safe queens; but what good is that? You don't know how good the knife is until you use it. Since then, I edc numerous 100 plus knives: BM 806D2, Military, Sebenza, even Vic Swisschamp XLT are some examples.

Most my EDCs are $100+ with the exception of the older slip joints, I regularly carry Crawford, Nealy and Dozier customs, plus many production knives that cross that benchmark.

What's the point of havin' it if ya ain't gonna use it?

I carry a ZT 300. I do not worry, to much about hurting it. Probably last longwer than me!

My EDC alternates betwseen a Chuck Gedraitis custom folder and a WilkinsGrip modded Griptilian, both of which were easily over $100. Why have 'em if you don't use 'em?

Sometimes I'll EDC a small Busse.

But most often, it's a small Old Timer or an SAK.

they are both 18's, though i don't recall ever seeing a wharncliff model.

those both look to have been hand ground by hinderer. mine has the outsourced blade, then is sharpened by hinderer after initial grinding.

It depends on where or what I'm doing that day, I carry a Spyderco Caly3 or
BladeTech Pro-Hunter Extreme

Most of my dedicated knives are under 100$. Don't think I have a folder that I paid more than 75 for. I do use my Charge TTi pretty frequently, but not as often as my dedicated knives.

in the last few months i have had Spyderco CF caly 3 in zdp 189, love it, great size, great steel and the wire pocket clip is awesome. I also have a BRKT Bravo 1 in my computer bag... why... just like having it with me, i also had a small krein and a Busse Bad in my bag. When i walk my dog lately i have been throwing into my jacket pocket either a ZDP endura (under $100) or a ZT 350.. mostly for fun or rapid werewolves.. (should get the silver coated blades for that!) the price of the knife has not hindered my using them as believe it is the form and the function that make for great design, and you never realize the functionality of the design until you use it!! I have been working with an industrial deign company lately doing UI work and I am surrounded by great design on a daily basis so these issues have been going through my head a lot lately. I do have though a bunch of under $100 kershaws that represent great form and function, the leek jumps to mind!
