Do you have knives in limbo?

I keep telling myself I'm not a collector - I have more than 20 knives, sure, but I use them! I use them all!

... Except one.

I haven't even put it in the sheath.

It's not expensive. I got a good deal on it. I have far more expensive blades. I have knives that cannot be replaced that I use without hesitation.

So, why?

I've been staring at this box for something like two months now! I keep telling myself "alright, let's do it" and then I grab my Master Tanto instead.

Okay, so I don't use it. I'll sell it! I'm in no hurry, so, just a hair below retail. Nah. I'll trade it!

So I offer it up for trade and it's a deal!
And then... I can't. I withdraw from the trade almost immediately. Unprecedented. I've backed out of zero previous trades and only a couple purchases out of the bazillion deals I've been party to.

So, it's in limbo until I grow a pair sufficient to take it out of the packaging and put some damn scratches on it.

What about you? Has a knife sat around for way too long while you deliberated?

I've had this little guy for at least 20 years. Can't tell you how many times I've tried to sell it, back out every time. I finally said to hell with it I'll just carry it. It has still never seen the inside of my pocket. I don't get it, I guess it's just that way with some blades.

Not anymore. They are going to be used or carried regularly or out they go! I'm down 30 knives in the last 2 years. Well, save for a couple with sentimental value.

My Becker BK 91 used to go with me on hikes, then we had a kid and long hikes went away. "When he's older," I said, and I don't really need it in my suburban day to day life. He got older, then we got the second (and last) kid, and there the 91 sits for most of the past 7 years. But now I am older too, and more likely to take a 15 than the big knife on the little trips we make. It's still in the drawer, and I still pull it out from time to time and think, "some day." I just don't want to sell it and get something else, and I just don't know why.

It took me 3 years to put a pocket clip on this knife.

I've still never carried it. It still takes my breath when I dig it out.

No limbo. Just knives that might be used if I feel like it or they won't. Doesn't matter to me one way or the other as long as I'm satisfied with what is in my pocket or on my belt. I added two new perfectly fine folders Saturday that could be EDC's and one handmade fixed blade. Of course one is a 1 of 10 edition.... but who really cares? Probably going to be getting a large handmade fixed blade in the coming months which I highly doubt I'll use more than a couple times for anything.

I don't know why folks get concerned about not using a knife. It will always be there if you choose to use it. I am a realist and I fully expect my knives to be sold in some yard sale or go to the landfill if I die. I won't know the difference one way or the other.

With firearms, I do collect and I am seriously thinking about giving a number of them a new home and passing them on to someone who sees them for something other than money. I can probably buy a car or three with the sales.

Most of my blades are for collecting purposes, I use only a few. I have the CS Recon Tanto as well but in the AUS8A version.

I bought too many knives. I only use a few of them. Guess that makes me a collector. So there are plenty of knives unused on the shelf. Some day I will sell them all. Right now I don't have time to worry with it.

I think I have... a Cold Steel Desperado... sorry no pics, i just left the knife at my dad's house atm...

I like everything about this knife, and trying to find a reason to carry it and never have. it just sit on my knife drawer for almost 2 years i think.

I'm afraid when it comes to knives I've made a pig out of myself. I've never meant a knife I didn't like. I've been at it for 40 years.
I use a bunch of them. Some sit in my truck like a SAK Camper, a Case 523-6 and a PM2. Then others are laying around the house to grab as needed. I even have a ZT801 sitting in my bathroom next to the crapper. Then I have a room dedicated for storage of some I'll never use. Some of them are over 80-90 years old and some are LE's and customs.
What can I say? I'm a Pig.

Rubicon. Can't use it, can't sell it. Not sure if I love it or hate it. I'll sell it tomorrow... or the next day... I take it out and flip it and it goes back in the drawer every time.

I can make you free and take your burden if you're wondering about getting rid of it...;)
I have been looking desperately for a Desperado
as far as my limbo knife, it's the Rajah I. No doubt

Will never use it, probably, but I won't be selling it either!

We have too many but at the same time we want more. We're also fickle and have trouble hanging onto them. So yes I have several right now that are in limbo. I need to renew my membership so I can sell a few, I need to decide what I want so I can finally decide to buy a few. Until I decide on some of them I don't feel free to use them so they just sit in the drawer. When I get more I'll have to sell more, then I'll decide to get more, and it continues. And there will be others in limbo along the way.

I think the only two I have that have sat around unused are the Kershaw TiLT and Ruby. I wasn't planning to keep them as safe queens. Just too many knives and too little time...

Now cut some damn stuff!

I'm off today! If I run across any errant cardboard boxes while walking Casina around, however, I will show them no mercy. Corrugated ne'er-do-wells will be dispatched without pity or remorse.

Wow, I don't think I've seen a thread like this before....when the subject of knife ownership & usage is even hinted at, I'm used to most everyone chiming in to let folks know that only sissies don't routinely fell sequoias with every single knife they own...and then rub extra dirt into the really fancy & expensive ones. Refreshing!

I was pretty much expecting a lot of blustering when I made this thread. "Refreshing" is right! The honesty here has taken me aback even though it was what I had hoped for when posting this.
