Do you have to have 4 or 5 of the identical knife when you find one you really like?

My knife collection has become a hoard. There is concrete evidence that I go from one obsession to another. When I find a knife I like, I NEED 4 or 5
of the identical same knife before the fever breaks. One user and multiple backups. Does this happen to you?? Most of my knives are in the $40--$100 range because I know
if I dip my hand in the ZT, Busse etc. pool I would definitely drown in bankruptcy. Folders or fixed blades, it doesn't matter. Does anyone else suffer from this compulsion???

Nope! I only buy two, one to carry and one to keep on display, especially if its a knife over 150.00

I don't.

I typically have 2 super tinkers at any given time, one put away and one on me. I have 2 because the super tinker is my go to gift knife to friends who see me using it and think/say positive things but don't have a knife.

I have not done so yet, but if a knife I loved was being discontinued I would consider buying a second one.

No. The one I have a duplicate of is because I liked it and decided to get it with a different blade steel.

Maybe not 4 or 5, but yes.........several. I'm a tomahawk and kukri fanatic. I do own my HI kuks, but not multiple of the same model. I do however own several VTAC tomahawks and several cold steel Gurkha kukris. To me, those two models are just about perfect.

Not me. The only knives I have duplicates of were those where I wanted to have one to experiment with (blade patinas, dyeing handles) and wanted to keep one in original condition. So far that's only two knives (2 originals, 2 duplicates).

There are too many interesting knives for me to want to spend my money on more of the same.

I bought 3 when I discovered that my EDC was discontinued. Keep one at a location I fequently fly to and the other in a safe place, while using one as my EDC. The Buck folding kalinga.

I don't hang on to duplicates. If I buy a duplicate I pick the one I like best and give the other one away. I've been through several leeks and buck 110's this way.

The only knife I have multiples of is the Spyderco Military. Planning on buying more as well. I carry two every day too, one left and one right. THe left one stays the same, the right one changes from time-to-time.

Spyderco Endura, have many. Different colors, blade type (sabre or ffg), FRN and G-10.

If I have ‘dupes of any given knife in my collection, it’s because I really like that model.. Like the PMII, 940-121, 615, and 530-1303. It’s always nice to have one or two extra, especially when they discontinue production.. (example: all the models I listed besides the PMII).

If I had a bunch of money, than I would buy multiples, but right now I'm just buying knives that I'll use.

Yes but it's usually 2 for me. Knives I really like I find the need to have 2 of them and sometimes 3. If I could afford 100 Strider's I would have 100 Strider's but you gotta draw the line somewhere lol.

No. Part of the fun of knife collecting is trying different makes, steels, etc. Unless I had unlimited resources to buy as many of anything that I wanted, of course:o.

In the past, yes. I used to have five original C83 Black micarta, bolstered Persians, four red sprint runs, four small C75 and many, many doubles. But than, financial citation got worse and I had to sell almost all doubles to finance new knives. I have several Native5, but all of the are different, except two Forum knives. Still have three original C83 and one sprint, but they are not going anywhere at least for now.

No because if they are not being used then it is a waste of money in my opinion, of course i'm not a collector and if i was a collector i wouldn't have more than two of the same knife, even one should be enough though since collecting would mean i wouldn't be using it so it would last forever really. One knife should last a lifetime in responsible use especially when you buy quality knives, it would take a long time before i would need to replace a knife with a backup, let alone a third, fourth, or fifth backup. Plus if something goes wrong with my knife i would send it in for warranty repair. I mean if you got the dough and really want to do that go for it, but for me personally it's like having five of the same cars as back up for when your tires wear out on the one you drive, when it makes more sense to have the tires replaced. Just my own opinion and practice.

In the beginning, yes. At that point I could afford to have multiple variations of RAT 1's. Now that I'm into Benchmades, etc...doesn't really suit the budget anymore.

Of course, if I had endless fat stacks I'd have a crazy overkill collection.

I don't have multiples. I just don't have the disposable income. But if I were to have multiples, it would have to be for something collectible or that I really, really liked.
