Do you have to have 4 or 5 of the identical knife when you find one you really like?

Not me. My knife fetish/obsession comes down to buying something different each time.

What has happened to me in the past is that I have the urge to buy a knife but there's nothing new that I want so I just buy a duplicate of a favorite model.
At present time, I've sold off most of the duplicates.
Buying a different model is far more satisfing than buying a duplicate.

I have a second Spyderco Urban Leaf stashed away somewhere. Otherwise I find myself increasingly drawn to semi- or full custom knives so no risk of hoarding... duplicates anyways.

I don't currently own any duplicates (I have in the past) but I would like and plan to get a 2nd Busse TGLB when I get the ca$h.

I'm surprised to see so many D'Allaras in one spot. Its one of my favorites, and is a knife with a back story.

I had to "rescue" them. Found a brick-and-mortar store going out of business and they were priced right.

Indeed, a sad story regarding Officer D'Allara.

I buy multiples of the same model in different sprints, for example I have 6 Para 2s, but each one is a different steel type, I would probably buy a second of the same exact model if it was one I really like and being discontinued like the Contego or Manix 2 XL.

The only knife that I have absoluted duplicates of is the Victorinox Adventurer model. Left my last one at a job site about 2 hours drive away... gone. Grabed one of my dups and I'm back in business. I have quite a few "spare" Vic SAKs in different models.

But in general, I do not seek duplicate knives. I may buy several of a certain pattern, ex Endura (both plain and fully serrated), or with different scales. But that is about it. I do have two Condor Goloks; one for hard use and one essentially brand new one that's available should I need it.

With firearms, I do have identical duplicates. These are mostly Colt Diamondbacks and they are really beginning to have some serious value attached to them. I don't shoot them in general.

If I like a knife, I buy 2 or 3 - If I REALLY like a knife... then I buy 4 or 5 - then if it is the Spyderco Military, I have, counting variations, over 30...

that is how I have ended up with a home office filled with knife displays...

note: when my children were young, I owned maybe 4 or 5 knives total... Gerber LST, Spyderco Economy, SAK, etc...

now, they are out of college, my wife has her horses... I have guitars and knives... and a LOT of homeowners insurance...

yes I do that it's a sickness the last model I bought 5 of was the 810 contego but it wasn't my fault I was trying to find a 4 inch cpm-m4 made in the usa for under $140 but the contego was is the only game in town so I bought 5.

i have 3 military's. 2 are plain edge s30v knives and one is a 440v full spidie edge. that's about as crazy as i get.

Yes, because I lose knives, and other things as well.
I buy multiples of SAK red money clips with the scissor, blade and nail file.
They range from $17.99-40.00 depending on where.
I get them at the lower price at Campmore in NJ
Very handy item

Definitely not that many but I could see it if the model was being discontinued and I loved it. If it was a model I loved I'd probably stick with 3 if it was something reasonably priced. Customs obviously would be a different ballgame. I do have four of one model right now but I plan on cutting that down at some point, limited edition and I jumped on it. Otherwise most models I just have one.

I try not to get EXACT duplicates. That said, I do have 13 Delicas, 5 Enduras, and 5 Dragonfly 2's. But they are all different in either color or handle material/blade steel. I also have 6 different Caly/Calypso models.

I'm much the same. I really like the Kershaw Blur and Leek (Ken Onion revolutionized folders IMO...to the benefit of all manufacturers)...I try to buy each of the different blade steels, and, in some cases, handle/lock/grind variants.

For me, there's a lot to be said for getting to experience different compositions in a consistent platform; it offers the basis for continuity and objectivity. I wish I'd gotten more exposure to the Spyderco Mules, but I struggled with the lack of handle slabs and sadly I don't find myself using fixed blades as much in my "slacks in the office" daily grind. They did some really exotic steels I have yet to toy with.

I'd love for a company to really go wild doing as many variants of a good EDC platform as possible. Kershaw and Spyderco come closest.

I have 10 different variations of the Kershaw Skyline and 2 Delicas, one is waved. As far as getting the same exact variation, I could only see that if they're something like a Buck Vantage or RAT 1 where I can give them out to people and not be sad (although I was sad when I sold my RAT 1 to my manager)
