Do You Hide Your Knife Purchases from your Spouse...& do you get away with it?

Neither one of us do "full disclosure" regarding our obsessions. We are both aware, generally, and that seems to work. She sees my IG, so she knows what's up. I also do cycle through a lot of stuff, and keep most of my knife business confined to PayPal. If we had money issues, all of this would be far more relevant.

Nope. Don't try to hide knife purchases from my wife. She deserves more respect than that. I do, however, let her know when I get rid of a knife. It really helps when I get a new blade, which is not very often anymore.

We have discussed what I want to do with my blade collection so she has a pretty good idea what's going on anyways. My goal is to scale back on knife purchasing and sizing down the collection as a whole. The idea is to have a small, purpose-driven collection that is of decent quality.

My wife does not like guns/knives/machetes/hawks. She watches our Grandchild at our home so.............:( I can usually sneak out, and intercept about 60% before I go to work. My Amazon purchases also alarm on my wife's cellphone.......she won't change her settings:mad:. She definitely slows down my (value) knife purchasing (200+:D).

Hide is a strong word.

10 years ago it was more on the radar, now she never asks the price and accepts them as not the worst vice...

Either establish a budget where you have a certain amount of disposable income to spend on whatever you want or get a divorce.

Life’s too short for that BS.

Best advise on how to handle the issue. Let's face it SWMBO would prefer you spend the money on "family" or save it rather than spend it on "crap" ie "knives" or "insert your hobby" - so you have to reach a compromise and draw a line somewhere.

My wife hasn't bothered about knives, as I tend to go for less fancy stuff. She was a bit concerned as I built my firearm stash to about 20 or so. She really didn't say much at all when I brought home a 2,400 pound vertical mill, or the 1,600 pound metal lathe. I bought those for my son, the up-and-coming machinist. Honest. Besides, it's hard to hide them. :)

I didn't say much when she bought several building lots in Thailand and built her mother a house. Or chipped in to help her sister build a house outside Bangkok. If she wants to spend 50 grand, it's her business. She's a big girl (almost 5 feet tall) ... after 40 years of marriage, we do whatever we want.

When I first started smoking that CRK crack I had many packages delivered at work. The money came from my own separate account, but she'd have killed me if she knew just how much...

No need to hide from the wife. Buying stuff for the hobby is different from pissing it down at the pub or smoking weed etc.
