Do you keep your knife boxes/packaging?

now and then.
I use them or convert them for knife compartments for my knife case

only collection ones I'm never going to use nowadays. I used to keep everything and ran out of room and created an organization disaster. my wife finally stepped in and made me plan it out better.

now ones i use I dont unless they are ultra rare or I got it to use and its known discontinued. then I keep them.

problem is space. not such a big deal if ya have only 10 or 20, but get into hundreds and it becomes an overwhelming amount of valuable space used up by basically trash.

those pouches I find annoying. more stuff I dont need that costs more and I have zero use for them.

I used to toss them up to a couple years ago.
I've never sold a knife ... given a few away over the years though. Few, if any, of my knives have any fiscal value. :)

I'm not sure why I started saving the boxes ... no room for more cutlery without boxes in my knife storage cigar box might be one reason?

If there is paperwork with a knife, I generally put it in a drawer with other "Why am I keeping this?" papers and irrelevent years old snail mail. (except for Buck knives. One set of paperwork is good for all.)
I think the only paperwork still in the original box is for my Case TB61028W DAM teardrop, and in the tube for my GEC 852211 Harness Jack.

Boxes do tend to take up a lot of space, which was an issue when I was living full time in my 16 foot camper for about 30 years until I had the stroke three years ago month after next month, or the 8 foot slide-in pickup camper that I had before that, and on my (then) boss' 1968 38 foot ChrisCraft cabin cruiser/sport fisher, "TIGERCAT II" on Lake Mead.
(Original owner was a WW2 Ace. TIGERCAT 1 was his P51. He had friends in "High"(?) "Low"(?) places. Boss had a picture of the original owner with then Prez RMN (AKA: "I am not a theif!" and "Tricky Dick"), along with a couple secret service duds on the boat fishing for Marlin, taken circa 1971 or 1972, when the owner lived in the FL Keys.)

Yes, I keep all the boxes, paperwork, etc to my knives. even sometimes I also read the paperwork that came with the knife. it also provides me a lot of information about its quality and material.

My "BK12" (Ritter RSK MK2 Perseverance) came in a plastic bag. It's now discontinued; and (occasionally) somewhat sought after. I responded to somebody that was looking for one (I had an extra - it seemed like the right thing to do), and the guy wanted the original packaging. When I told him it came in a plastic bag, he didn't believe me...and said if I'd lie about that, he couldn't really trust anything I said about the knife.
Apparently he said something to someone, asked around, or did some research, because he emailed me a couple weeks later. I can be pretty understanding; but that wasn't one of those times, lol. I've still got that knife, and it's still not for sale.

Not knowing what you have, I can't comment on whether the boxes are crazy; but not selling certainly isn't. I hate selling; but it is occasionally necessary as I try to cut back on the number of knives around here

Haha.....good for You! ;)
I like the idea of reserving My sales for ANY reason too!

His loss for being a dolt. ...... I don't have one, but I bet That's one of the Best Becker's......if ya can get one!

I try to keep all the boxes and material that come with my knives, but my shelves were getting slowly overloaded. I decided to purge some of the boxes of my cheapy user knives that I know will have no real value, but I still held on to as many as I could. I know I am still missing boxes since many of my knives I bought second-hand, so that kind of bothers the completionist in me. I was also surpised by the number of zipper pouches I have, as they seem to be more and more commonplace as of recent. Do you keep these around?

All those boxes Stress me out...

I get it, if one is a Collector...... But I hope I stay as a User of knives.

*I guess That's a good way of storing sheaths

Used to, but at some point, stopped buying knives that I don't intend to use much and threw most of the boxes away.

The only exception is GEC folders - i keep the containers because the knives stay in them so that they don't rust, and at some point, I won't keep them.

Very good question, something which I have questioned myself on many times. I am not a collector, don't plan on selling any knives, and have enough knives now to outlast me, so why do I keep all my boxes? No idea why and will probably ask myself that very question years from now, whenever I open that storage compartment.

I do keep boxes, and I’m trying to find a couple 4Max boxes .....just incase any of you considering tossing them. Scout and USA and Italian.

just throwing it out there.....

I toss almost every one of my boxes. I buy my knives to keep and use. If I run across someone who needs it more than I do, I just give it to them. The downside for them is that the free knife does not come LNIB. I've never sold a knife in 30+ years, so boxes just kinda take up space in my closet.

Now, generally, I start out THINKING I will keep the boxes. Ill buy a knife locally, take it out of the box, put it in my pocket, and toss the box in the backseat of my truck to tuck away safely later....then I pile a bunch of crap on top of it, crush it, and end up tossing it. Sometimes I'll find the crushed box after I have given the knife away (usually to my younger brother).

There is one box that I will always keep, and that's of any CRK knives. They actually seem made to keep, like they are part of of knife.

I like to keep the original-packaging. Kind of gives me a little sense of history, regarding the collection. I'll usually store the blades not in the current-rotation, back-in-the-boxes they came in. Plus, you never know, when a blade may become a 'classic', and the original-box kind of adds-to-it.

Never seen that spydie before, thanks for the cool pic!

All of my knives are users so I don't keep the boxes. If I had a nice collection and display pieces I probably would.

I have most of my Spyder boxes... alot were sprint runs or exclusives.
But I use my knives and I highly doubt I would sell any.

Maybe I'll toss them, seems useless to keep them.
