I'm a "collector" and keep every factory box (or pouch) that I receive w/a knife and I also keep most of the shipping boxes for re-use when I sell knives (which I did a lot of in the past month).
As a collector, my preference is to buy knives with a factory box but that is not always possible. I'll make exceptions for rare and hard to find knives and cheaper knives, especially if I might use them.
I keep the factory boxes/pouches (and most of my fixed blades) in bigger boxes in a storage closet and I keep the shipping boxes w/ other empty boxes in my utility room or garage. I do not lack for storage space in my house.
