do you live in NY check out the new laws coming our way..

And to make matters worse, yesterday, some idiot showed up in court for jury duty with a sword cane and a dagger. He now is now on the other side of the jury box.

Many liner locks I see do in fact have faulty detent balls. If companies and makers did them correctly no one would have reason to be concerned. I owned two BenchMade Dejavoo folders and have rebuilt one other of the larger ones besides the one I owned myself that both went to other folks and all of these knives were by definition "gravity knives" because I gotta tell ya in a court of law anyone stating otherwise with knives of this ilk would not be able to prove otherwise. These knives of course have detent balls. They simply don't work as they are supposed to and in fact do one thing and that is allow the blade to roll easier. They do nothing to keep the blade from opening by gravity when done this way.

When I think of all the other liner locks I have seen besides just these that also met the gravity knife definition it is no wonder that NY has decided to just lump them all in one big pile and call them illegal. For this I think manufacturers and makers themselves doing them this way have no one else to blame for this but themselves. Just my opinion though.

Here in Texas, of all places, the idiot DA in Amarillo has declared all Kershaw assisted openers with the flipper illegal. Apparently, some shmo ran from the cops and when they caught him, they threw every offense they could think of at him. Turns out the DA brought it upon his almighty self to declare a perfectly legal knife in all 50 states and all cities therein illegal to carry in Amarillo. He says it's a "switchblade," though Texas penal code clearly defines a "switchblade" as a knife opened by pressing a button on the handle.

What an idiot. I'm so glad I don't live in that city anymore. Lubbock's a little bit better. Feel sorry for you guys in NY and California. But DC is pretty much the worst in the country for any such "weapons" laws.

That term in itself kinda pisses me off. I would lay money that few, if any, of the knife lovers on this form have ever used their blades as a weapon. The knife is the ultimate in simple machines. A basic wedge that can be used for a multitude of purposes. It's a TOOL. Not a weapon. Maybe they should call all wrenches and golf clubs weapons just because someone occasionally grabs one to beat the living crap out of a would-be robber or unsuspecting mugging victim.

And the laws prohibiting switch blades and balisongs and the likes are just as asinine. I can get my Spyderco tip-down folders out of my pocket and open faster than any want-to-be gang banger can dig the butterfly knife from his back pocket. It's all about images and what scares the sheeple. Now I'm just pissed off.

If anyone can send me ANY sources or documents of the case in discussion here, I'd really appreciate it. I mentioned it to one of my friends - who is a lawyer - and he wants to further research this.

Thanks gang!
