Do you mind knives that cut you?

I was a Butcher for some 38 years..If we cut our selves its because we weren't focusing on what we were doing. Mid July, a beauty came by the meat counter,
wearing a string bikini  Two of my cutters stopped what they were doing, and enjoyed life as it passed by.
Being the dept manager I kept cutting,at the same time taking a quick look:p
Well needles to say, the 14" steak knife found it's way to my middle finger, cutting the tendons..so after the repairs I can't bend the top joint of the finger to make a fist.

Do you mind knives that cut you. I normally put away knives that cut me, probably not using it again, so far I have put away a few. I know some would say its me whos careless, but i do not like to use knives that had cut me before. they just feel dangerous and have a bad track record. :)

whats your views?
Were you sober when you posted this ?

Doug :)

If I looked it in that way I should have thrown away most of my users knives, machetes, even axes.I like work with blades, keep them sharp and sharp them for no reason,so it is normal to get cut once in a while

You could change that saying I have heard a few times to be:

"Knives cut people just like spoons make Rosie O'donnell fat"

Haha :D

My knives just jump out of their sheaths and cut me all the time. I hate when they do that.:)

You cut yourself with the knife. You can't get away from the real cause of the injury.
I cut myself once on the index finger and thumb while trying to notch a perch for a bird cage. I kept the knife and have used it often- so as to be reminded never to pull a knife blade towards any part of my body when using it. It was only my mistake that caused the injury.

The knife is a tool just like a firearm. I been cut many times doing foolish things and by accident with any number of my knives. Stuff happens.

I've cut meself on most of my knives, so that's over one hundred minor cuts right there :) The only knife I'm a bit wary of is my little khukri, it's cut everyone that's ever picked it up!

I had to glue three of my fingers closed after it slit the sheath to get a bite at me. Was telling the missus what happened and it bit her too, same for two of her cousins and my brother. You could say the knife is blameless and the sheath was faulty, but the sheath didn't want to be sliced open either!

Unless the knife does something (like the locking mechanism fails) no. I've cut myself many times growing up, unless the knife has some mechanical failure its my fault.

Usually because I'm careless while working or doing something stupid. If the knife cuts me its doing its job.

IF it has a design flaw or maybe just the design somehow doesn't seem to agree with the way I cut (I suppose), then yes, I'd put it away. For the other 99.999999% of the time, it would in fact be me cutting myself, using the knife. I've cut myself twice so far, one time it actually started to bleed a little.

Personally, if there was no design flaw, then that type of response seems pretty immature.

1) When I cut myself I get a better appreciation for the cutting efficiency of my blades.

2) When "I cut myself" with any of my knives, we "become as one".

Thus my screen name:D

Oh definatly! I got cut by a bolt while I was working on my car so I set it on fire and dumped it in a lake! Is this really a serious question?:D

LOL.... maybe its the flu i am recoving from. What I meant was if a knife cuts the hand that should be holding it its surely carelessness on my part and sometimes also that the handles that are slippery. I had a knife that had a lacquered handle that i put away because of it. I tied rubber bands to it but it would not stay in place. Rasping the handles would work but it would do damage to the handle.

I have a kitchen knife that due to design handle tend to have the blade facing upwards more often than others and has nicked me a few times because tend to be was facing upward. Being right handed, I can understand its reasonably easy to cut the other hand but if it cuts the hands that suppose to hold it and i am not juggling with it, it could be something isnt right. Its users fault almost all the time but design of the knife sometimes plays a tiny part that results in a big gash.:)

+1 on that. Had one knife that I nicked myself on. As I thought about it, I realized that the design of the knife was not suitable for me. So it lays at the bottom of my drawer.

The rest of the time, I just say a couple of words that I shan't repeat here, and reach for a bandaid and put the knife back in my pocket. It certainly does not get used any less

However, I gotta say that I just don't cut myself very often.
