Do you needlessly chop living trees in your pseudo-survival play?

Why?

At least you did it shamelessly! I would certainly do a double take if I came across that tree while out in the woods. OH

I chop living trees, but not needlessly and not for survival play. I often have need of the wood for some task or another so I just get one from the woodlot.

Folks have been awfully judgemental about pretty much anything other people do around these parts of the internet lately.
I'd ask why, but it's probably just that silly old human nature popping up again.

Hell no.
If it were a true survival situation though, I'd denude the entire forest if I had to. ;)

No. But I don't go in for"survival play" either. I have killed a few trees in my day, but I do actually try to avoid it, even when we are talking about "weed" trees. I like trees.
I heat my home with wood, by the way.

That's right. If it looks to be bad, all bets are off and I will chop whatever is near me. Other than that extremity, I try to follow my conscience and be socially responsible out there. Two weeks ago I hand peeled the loose hanging outer layer off of a few birch. No tree was harmed.

I cut trees, yank them out by the roots and throw them away also. I will sometimes even saw bigger ones into boards. You will thank me for thinning the herd when they rise up against us.

I think the OP was in jest.

Or at least that's the only way I'm willing to interpret it. :D

I killed two trees in my back yard. Not in "survival play" I was just trying to relocate them.

This is how I used to do it out there. Seemed like a waste to me. Particularly when I'd see the slit deeper inner layers pucker open when they dried.

Kill the trees! If it weren't for trees we wouldn't have forest fires! :D Seriously though, I don't like to use resources if I don't need them so no wanton cutting for me. Now if I need a shelter, firewood, or other wood products, yes the forest will provide but I strive to only take what I need and keep my impact to as small a footprint as needed.

Troll much?

This was originally posted in General and moved here by the mods. Make of that what you will.

No, I do not needlessly chop living trees (or dead ones for that matter) and no, I do not "play" at survival.

I consider myself a conservationist and an outdoorsman of sorts. I get plenty of chopping/cutting/slashing practice keeping my property tidy and I have zero hesitation to cut wood if I actually need it for shelter or a fire or to feed my smoker's insatiable appetite for chips, so I can eat delicious wonderful food on a regular basis.
