Do you needlessly chop living trees in your pseudo-survival play?

I give them 20 seconds head start, then if I catch them they are dead.

Considering the number of 2x4 pine studs used in the creation of my real estate and the real estate of my family, I fear that the answer is most assuredly yes (but at least that wood endures a very long while). Then I think about those special tickets I use so often- maybe twice a day sometimes- they come on the white roll? Hmmm.... Time to reactivate this country's industrial hemp production I think

Lots of great answers, but this is my favorite so far! :D

I hate trees. When I'm in the forest, they block the view, so I cut them down as I walk. Serves 'em right.

As I often keep going to the same place, cutting trees keeps firewood handy.
Besides, if I've been away for a bit at all, the wind manages to knock over way more trees than I have the time, energy or inclination for.

I'm not a meth fueled lumberjack on a rampage. ;)

Akin to beaing in the hospital under an oxygen tent, reaching under the tent's skirt and turning the oxygen valve off.

Let's just get it over with and cover the Earth in asphalt, concrete, and desert now.

Cutting trees just for the sake of cutting trees sounds like way too much work. But if I need to cut a living or dead tree, I do it except of course some "special tree". Trees are a renewable resource.

Just drink the syrup.

Now THAT is a lot of work. But the smell of simmering maple sap\syrup and those big boiling clouds of steam, is something that will linger forever from childhood. :) I heard something about Birch sap\syrup also but I never pursued it. Maybe one day................

Umm... yeah... that's... that's not even close

So the outdoorsman that may cut down the occasional living tree, his end goal is no trees at all:confused:

I mean you're probably right, this is the W&SS, these guys hate the woods and all things nature:rolleyes:

I don't unless it's really necessary. That said it ruffles my feathers when someone interjects within a thread starting off with "I hate to be that guy" then dishes out a bucket full of Captain Planet BS. Go donate to some good cause or do volunteer work if yea want to make the world a better place but if someone cuts down a branch or small sapling to make a pot hook i wish these people would give it a rest.

yeah its easy to say that, but its kinda like important you know? the life support system of the place you live and can never escape? kinda a good and self interested idea to keep that going pretty strong isnt it?

Not needlessly. I clear trails while I walk the dog or hike. In New England here and we got quite a bit of rain. Some small 2"-3" green trees needed to be cut back.

This^^^ and cut some as needed for firewood. Cut a ton of tree's off trails on the farm last week. At least 20 good sized ones. It's been a while since anybody's been down them and done any vegetation clearing. Only time i think cutting down tree's is a bad thing is when it's done in massive amounts and just to build more shopping malls and fast food resturants.

A single suburban sub-division clears out more trees than I could in a lifetime, even if my back were better and I had money to go off to do whatever I pleased.

I will certainly not apologize for my extremely limited impact on the planet.

I volunteer to cut trees. We clear a few acres on a good day (depends on how many show up) and burn it. What good are the mighty oaks if the invasive species rob/starve them of life-giving nutrients?
Best not to pass judgement every time you see trees being cut.

There should be a goal other than just a cut down tree and posting pics of doing it. That's the point -- read the OP title again. It's called stewardship.

A man should never justify his own behavior, good or bad or indifferent, by the behavior of others unless his behavior is to counter the bad behavior of others.
