Do you obsessively buy multiples of favorite knives?

I don't think it's obsessive, but I do have 3 Kershaw Scallions and two Camillus USMC fighters with serrations/sawback.

Momma says I always buy 2 of everything . My favorite hunting user is an old 70's Buck 110 and I did not buy 2.... actully I think there are 10 or 12 or them laying around....
I gotta get a grip.... hummm... a 110 finger grip would be nice....

But yes, I am prone to double up if I particularly like a knife or it is a good deal, or collectable.

I used to, but I got over it. Now, I only have multiples of the Gunting and the Shivworks Clich Pick (both of which I carry frequently), and I've got two MOD Razorbacks (one of which I plan to sell or trade when I get around to it). I may get another Spyderco Kopa when the black Micarta version comes out since I've been carrying the Cocobolo one every day, and a different color would be good for a change. I've liquidated multiple: Griptilians, BM 940s, BM 941s, Dodos and a few more that I can't remember - all great knives, but they were just taking up room.

I'm NOT a knife expert by any stretch of the imagination.

But.....I liked the BOKER Magnums well enough, to see them as a good "everday" type pocketknife. Sure....an auto is somewhat restricted in different states, but in AZ., they are not a problem.

The price I paid for them can do nothing but go up, as the years pass by. I'm not looking to make a killing $$ wise, but it's nice to know, that you can buy something, and can always at least, get your initial investmnet back, if neeed, if for no other reason. :D

Having a backup wife will mean less backup knives, ain't worth it!

You're absolutely right. My wife is actually pretty understanding overall with my knife collecting, etc. Another "wife" might have a big problem with the knives and stuff. Plus, she'll just cost money that could go into knives. One wife is more than enough for any man.

That was too freakin' funny. :D

Maybe with human cloning...

I'd want a clone of Aunt Jemima. "Make me some pancakes BeeeAtch!" :D

FINALLY! I was getting worried that I was the only one with MULTIPLE multiples! :D
I see some others with a few multi's but as many as I listed looked to be few and far between. That started to get me worried. :(

I have multiples of knives and multi-tools because once I get used to using them, like they're a part of my hand, if one breaks, gets lost, gets sent back for repairs, or gets stolen, then all I have to do is grab it's "twin" or 'triplet' and I'm all ready to go again.

I wish that I could afford to buy twins of all my firearms, for the same reason!

I tend to buy a few of the same knife too for my favorite models....

I have about 30 Spydie Police with different handle and blade material. I'm still looking for a LNIB titanium handle Police though.

Sean

30?? Sean--you may be at the top of the "hit parade". :D

I don't have too many exact doubles - but I do like matching sets - like Grip and Mini-Grip, 110 and 112, that kind of thing. I did recently order a couple SAK w/ LED lights off of QVC that just happen to come in pairs :D But I gave the extra to my wife. Which I guess is what I normally do when I end up with a true "double" and not some kind of matching set.

This is not an obsession, it is merely prudent foresight. Life has taught me that good things and good deals don't last. A really good knife model will typically last longer than that model stays in production. Sal never asks me before he discontinues a model, he just up and does it. So you need to get at least a couple of the good ones while you can.

Sometimes an incredible deal comes along and it is time to stock up. My favorite SAK model is the Adventurer with a locking 3.25-inch blade and all the tools I use most in a lightweight two-spring thick package. When they first came out they were hard to find. Back before there were Internet knife outlets I stopped at the local Pace membership store and found that they had bunches of Adventurers for around $9.00 (less than 1/2 of retail). I bought 4 on the spot. After all, I needed a spare and both my sons and my wife should have one. I ended up adopting my wife's since she never carried it.

Do you remember the old Alan Sherman song, "Down the Drain", it is all too true:

Down, down, down, down, down...
Down, down, down...)

The sweetest things in life
Don't stay around for very long.
They come and go and don't come back again.
While they're here, you feel so smug.
That's when fate pulls out the plug,
And the sweetest things in life go down the drain.

What has happened to galoshes?
Down the drain.
Where's the Czar of all the Russias?
Down the drain.
And the five-cent candy bar,
And the good old Edsel car?
(Gone where all the swell things are.)
Down the drain.
(Right down the drain.)
Down the drain.
(Gone down the drain.)

Where are telephone prefixes?
Down the drain.
They've all gone to where Tom Mix is.
Down the drain.
Where's those grand old Gold Dust Twins?
(All those German zeppelins?)
Boys who set up bowling pins?
Down the drain.
(Right down the drain.)
Down the drain.
(Gone down the drain.)

Suppose we made a fuss
About the double decker bus?
Do you suppose they'd bring it back again?
Fountain pens that use real ink,
Coins that don't go clunk, but clink.
The things we love are sinking down the drain.

Where are all those kamikazes?
Down the drain.
And the Hotel Savoy Plaza's
Down the drain.
Where's the New York World's Fair?
Just last year I saw it there!
(In the heart of Flushing.)
Where?
(Flushing.)
Down the drain.
(Right down...)
Flushing down the drain.
(Right down the drain.)
(Flushing down the drain.)

You know, when the apocalypse finally starts happening, I don't think I will be able to buy anymore knives if I need them. And if the apocalypse does not come in my life, then my equipment will go to my future generation so they can dream of the so called apocalypse. Or they will sell it all and buy beer.

My sons-in-law- have already divided up my guns and knives...

I just make sure I don't open the safe when they are here. :D

I confess, I have two extra copies of my original Victorinox Manager, but only because it is no longer in production and I will probably never see another. In fact, the last one I bought, I persuaded the sales guy to sell the one in the display case. Oh and there's that extra Spyderco Calypso Jr. Hmm, maybe I do have a problem.
