Do you own a vacation knife?

I'm curious if anyone has a knife that they have for vacation/traveling purposes?

When not in the office I usually carry a Benchmade 710. I'm thinking I want to go with something that is a bit smaller possibly and less expensive while on vacation. Since we usually go to the beach I'm not sure how D2 would fair there; i'm sure it would be fine.

I don't (never really went on any vacations in my life except goat shows and fairs, not really vacations) but I'm hoping to explore more the U.S. at some point and do some extensive traveling throughout. I am planning to take a variety of relatively inexpensive knives, a couple small ones and a couple of larger ones, maybe even a Mora just to have something fixed. It's an interesting exercise so far. Guess I wouldn't need much but I'd like to take 4 or 5 just for variety.

Yea, growing up my family wasn't a vacation family. My wife's family was so now we are as well. Just curious to see if people have dedicated knives for travel.

I carry several slipjoints, some of them a little pricey. My rotation usually consists of a few lights, knives etc. Wiseman barlow, Larock Lanny's Clip, Larock dogleg jack, Case damascus peanut, Case ebony Tribal Spear, Victorinox alox pioneer (mainly for beverage detail) and a ZT 562. Not too sure how well the 562 is going to go over in the bustling resort town I'll be visiting in two weeks.

I carry a Spyderco Salt when fishing on the coast along with an Alox SAK . The two take care of any cutting / bottle opening needs I have and hold up really well.

While I don't have a knife dedicated specifically to vacationing, I do plan knives to take on vacation based on my needs. One knife that always goes on vacation with me is my Spyderco Pacific Salt, the large Endura sized one. No matter where we go, I know water will be involved so it always goes. It is also my work out blade.

I have a little buck 301 stockman that I carry on vacation. No worries about it being legal or illegal and it's cheap if it gets lost or forgotten in pocket on way through security at airport when flying.

I take a Titanium bladed CQC-7. The blade is short enough to be compliant with many overseas countries' laws, the thumbdisk is removable to further comply with those laws, and the Titanium blade means no worries about corrosion.

Depends on the vacation destination to determine what I'm carrying, but all my Knives are potential "vacation" Knives...

Vacation to the Woods, woodsy fixed blades, choppers and such.
Beach, some cheap and simple that sand won't completely foul up.
Family Gathering, something nicer and classier.
Road Trip, leatherman + ? (Destination)
Flying, nothing i can't afford losing. ie. that the TSA would steal that would really piss me off.

So yeah, no real "specific" or dedicated knife/Knives, all depends on the vacation.

I have a knife that always goes with me to the beach. It's a spyderco salt 1 with SE. I use it other times as well but it's very nice to have a knife you can clip iwb and not worry about salt water, sweat, chlorine, etc. It's big enough to use comfortably and light enough to be comfortable clipped into my swimsuit.

I don't really take a "family vacation" per se but I do travel sometimes for work. I usually take my ammo can full of knives but if I had to limit it I'd take my Pacific Salt with h1, PM2 and Leatherman Charge

I pack a few choices in my check in luggage when I travel by air. If I'm driving to a spot then I make sure I have enough of a choice on the spot. Usually though I wind up with my Pacific Salt or ZT 301 doing most of the work.

Bought the Buck 110 when going on a work trip. Thought I would use it and at the price not care a bit about it.

Now it has been a companion on many trips, it's a very capable blade, and easy to carry in the sheath that comes with it. USA made, and proud to own it. I love the Buck 110:

Which knife I'd take would depend on where to and how I'm traveling. I would almost always take at least two SAKs; my Executive and probably my Spartan. Then maybe my SE Pacific Salt, or maybe my FFG Delica or Endura 4. And my Swisstool Spirit is almost always on my belt. Great stuff, but nothing overly expensive. That's if I'm driving.

If I'm flying, I probably won't take anything. If I have a checked-in bag, I might put a Victorinox Classic in there if I can somehow secure it. If no checked-in bag, then obviously no knife.

If I'm driving somewhere with a 3" blade limit, like L.A. or S.F., my FFG Delica 4 might be the only one-handed knife I'll take. However, I've carried 4" blades to those places before and never had any issues.

I don't think I'd want to take something too expensive (for me, any single knife worth over $150) on such a trip, because if it was somehow lost, I wouldn't want it to spoil the whole vacation. I prefer vacation knives to be high enough quality but easily replaced if something unexpected should happen to them.

Obviously it depends on what you are doing on your vacation. The past few vacations I have taken , I have carried a Buck 112 Ranger (hiking), Buck 424 Bucklite (family), SAK (Disney), and Benchmade Small Summit Lake (Black Hills, SD). I think an SAK is a perfect vacation knife. Legal almost everywhere, non-threatening, and easily replaceable. Disney World security didn't bat an eye at my SAK Cadet.

Wherever I go one of my Delica ZDP189's goes with me ~~ and plus I am always wearing one of my discontinued Gerber Belt Buckles.* { i have a "few" of them to choose from }
This year it will be New Orleans,La. and Biloxi,Ms. for fun in the Sun & cool summer nights.
