Do you own a vacation knife?

I'm surprised how many of you don't vacation! I wouldn't survive without it. I suppose we're pretty lucky in Switzerland. Travel is easy and we tend to have a lot of vacation days/holidays.

I seldom ever used up all of my vacation time at work in a given year. The unused days essentially were donated to the company cause. What did I get for it? Absolutely nothing and a kick in the back side on the way out the door...... use your vacation days. You earned them.

I alway carry a Deluxe Tinker in my toiletry bag when I travel and sometimes an Alox SAK to carry, but never anything larger.

Either a Vic Recruit or a standard Scout knife. Both small, capable, and easily replaceable. I don't carry my original issue Scout for this- I'd hate to lose 22 years of memories on a roadtrip.

Just got back from a half a week at the beach. I had an opinel no 8 in the pocket, a leatherman wave riding in the car, and this guy in my bag for food prep. Think I may take a mora next time just to be different.

Am I the only one to take carbon steel to the beach? Funny thing is, the leatherman is the one with rust spots.:D

What is that fixed blade, btw?

I think the only logical "vacation knife" is one that wlll cause few problems when traveling or in a particular destination. A small Swiss Army Knife, forexample, may be a good knife to take on vacation to substitute for a locking folder with a 4 inch blade.

Another Spyderco Pacific Salt guy here. Our family vacations are always at the ocean. I keep it on a lanyard tied to my swim trunks and in my pocket JIC..CD

I use a lot of different knives for travel carry, depending on where I am going. I always consider the laws at the destination as well as type of travel.

When I travel to visit my father I frequently end up doing some kind of work so I've been carrying an M4 Manix 2. Other travel to places where they laws are not a problem I will pick any of my different EDC knives. When I travel to more restrictive states I will sometimes carry my old Leatherman Supertool, because it is more "tool" than "weapon". If I am traveling by airplane I will carry a small cheap slipjoint so if it disappears from my checked baggage it won't be a big loss.

I take a couple of stainless Opinels if I'm flying. Great knives, not scary and it just amuses me when TSA steals them. Anything more expensive and I get upset.

If we're just driving though I tend to carry a Kershaw Leek. We're foodies and the Leek, like the Opis, lends itself well to light food prep.

Spyderco Pacific Salt SE for all water based activities, and land based stuff accompanied by an Vic- alox Farmer. A lot depends on the location as to what is acceptable/ legal, but a SAK is accepted pretty much everywhere.

I always have either my SOG Micron II (gift) or an old Kline tools folder I've had since the 80s. Either fits in my wallet like their not even there. I went through Houston International not long ago coming home from a hunting trip, left a 30-30 rnd in my carry on bag, all holy hell came down with the TSA. Luckily a city cop was near who cleared up the bs without hassle. Long story short, I travel a lot and up until and including that trip, no one ever noticed the folder in my wallet. I quit carrying it on flights anyway after that. Not that it matters, after all that ammo BS I'm on the list for sure.

Since I usually travel by air, I tend to go with cheaper options because of the potential for theft from checked bags, usually I got with a Kershaw Thermite or Rat 1. As do several others, if I'm going to a place where there will be water exposure, I also bring my SE Pacific Salt.

Ditto. Same one goes with me anytime I go on a dive trip. If I'm not going near saltwater, then my old faithful small Sebenza always comes with me. I'll also usually throw a small fixed blade in my pack as well, usually something like an Izula II.

Most of my vacations involve air travel and I don't pack anything valuable in my check-in luggage, so I normally have to wing it without a knife when I'm away from home. :( When I don't have to fly, however, I usually take my Sage 2 with me. It's nice enough that I don't miss my expensive folders when I carry it and cheap enough that I wouldn't cry bitter tears if I lost it or it got stolen.

Yup. Mine is a Boye dendritic cobalt sailing knife. I always have it when I'm in the ocean.

How about a knife vacation? ;)

Usually an Alox. It will meet most needs, won't get stolen out of baggage, and is socially acceptable most everywhere. If I'm only driving inside the US then there are a lot more options.
