Do You Pace Yourself When Buying?

It is best to buy at least 2 knives at a time, otherwise you are wasting money on shipping and handling fees. :D

Yep. Hard and fast. Dead. Hard and fast. Dead.........................:D

I buy knives whenever I work overtime. That way, I don't feel like I am cutting into my regular pay check that is reserved for bills and savings. Overtime money is spent without guilt. This month, I got enough overtime for my damascus mnandi and damascus seb on order.

I hate being on a fixed salary. :grumpy:

Lack of cash paces me. :)
Major surgery will slow down everything. :)
I have knives waiting for me at the knife store. I just need the money to pick them up.

This forum has become a true double edged sword for me - it's nice to know that I'm not the only one addicted to sharp pointy things and there's endless good reads to discover, but everytime I get the urge to buy something else to tote under control, I'll read somebody's praises or review and yup, there I am figuring out how to justify buying yet another knife or two!

I know exactly how you feel about too many purchases coming in at once. I'm big into multi-tools and SAK's and such and you can only play with so many gadgets at once! (I knew I had developed a problem when I once toted 3 different multi-tools plus a SAK to work for a couple of days just to do some field testing!!) I sometimes wish I was a little more ignorant about knives and then maybe I wouldn't "need" so many! Good thread by the way.

I haven't bought a knife in over a year. But last time I bought up a knife I picked up four in a couple of weeks. I guess knife withdrawal finally got to me though because I now have three knives on their way to me as we speak. I guess I buy knives in spurts.

i buy too much, ask kel_aa. lol. and as soon as my gun shop where i work gets my Karambit that i have on order, i will be getting that one too... and i think i am going to trade in my benchmade to get it... i already have a Spyderco Salt I that i use for EDC for basic cutlery, and this will be my SD piece... but as for pace, awww hell no.

So what did this Sebenza have on it???

Unique grapic large sebenza with mother of pearl inlay, and a sharks tooth damascus blade. made in 2004. complete with origional warranty and box.

Pace??? My wife says that "I see it, I want it, I buy it." Yup, she's probably right.

I have a monthly allowance I can spend or save. I usually take my time to have a bit built up so when I see something that's on my acquisition list I can get it quickly. "Chance favors the prepared mind".

i was buying all that stuff, which has all now arrived. i also wanted a large unique seb ,....and a small. but, insead of keeping what little cash i had to go to the fund i spent it so i wouldnt spend the next month stessing over it and trying to scrape the cash together.
i just got rid of the money so i couldnt torture myself over it. whn ive got a decent amount of cash ill buy them.

I seem to buy in spurts. Two to three at a time. I blow a good amount of money on ebay -if it's a good deal I usually can't resist. I just bought a camillus cqb, a mini tanto afck, and a 690. -I am dead broke. But, at least I've got some knives. And hey, knives are a good investment.

I try to pace myself but its like holding my breath. I keep looking at my knife collection and saying think of the money you would have if you invested the money. But what the heck you only live once and I really enjoy my knives.

My "allowance" usually paces me- especially since I've discovered Busse  , but in times of plenty (recently got a bit of a settlement :) ) I found it helps to switch off by buying a few guns. Hope that helps :D

My philosophy is that I can either stash cash or stash knives. If someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night, I have a better chance of staving him off with a knife (or a 12 Guage :D ) than with a dollar bill...seriously though I actually do feel that if I've got money to save, I might as well buy a knife, then if I need hard $$ later, I just pick out one of my many "splurge" acquisitions and sell it for 75% of what I paid!! Pretty irresponsible, but when ya got the urge, ya got the urge...

I do have one advantage - I'm not married! (This is also a disadvantage on a lonely Friday night...)

I sometimes think it would be worth Lonely Friday nights, just to have more cash for knives, but then again, my 3 boys and wife do have some perks. My budget sets me at a snails pace, but on the rare occassions I get a bonus, or some approved overtime, I have a small windfall to get something special. Otherwise it's just sell or trade the knives I already have. I average less than $300 on knives a year.

I had set aside a certain amount for myself every month, but it was hard to stay at that amount. I bought a lot of under 100 folders and FBs, but now I've decided to go after higher priced sharp things, like Sebbies, Striders, Swamp Rats, Busses etc. I didn't really have a set direction for my acquisitions, and I wish I wouldn't have bought all the stuff that I've bought over the years, but then I wouldn't've had any fun in the quest for that perfect knife. Right now, I'm setting aside a certain amount for my purchases each month, some months I go without.
