I've lost my butt one too many times paying MAP. Not again.

I will patiently wait for the knife to pop up via the exchange. On some occasions I'll snag something off of an auction site.

I don't pay MAP, because I don't buy high zoot knives from trendy manufacturers. I used to pay a lot more for knives than I'm willing to pay now. I have a knife for every purpose and then some, so it takes a lot for me to reach deep in my wallet and buy another.

I voted never and while I tend not to use absolutes, it’s true, for as long as I can recall at least. It’s not just with knives though. I always try to find the very best price on anything I buy, even if I can easily afford full price. I think it is a product of leaner times. This is particularly true with knives though as I tend to spend more on them than most other goods and want to be sure I get the best deal I can find. If I can’t afford the production price of one I really want, I’m not at all opposed to purchasing used.

I live in Canada so I don't know if it's MAP or not. All I know is I pay whatever the retailer charges for it and it's damn pricy.
I'm in the same boat. But the odd time I have found things cheaper here then the US. For instance my PM3 was only $135 cad ($102 US)

I buy from Blade HQ or Knife Center so I am am reasonably sure I am getting the real deal. I am fairly new to collecting so I do not have the expertise to spot a well made fake. I see on other posts where people buy from on line gun dealers etc and then worry about their acquisition being the real deal. It is not worth the hassle to me to worry if what I purchased is the real deal. I save all my boxes and the price tag. As stupid as it may sound the box can be a big deal.. As one might imagine I have a lot of boxes around my home with the price tags and warranty information.
I do research my purchases and buy the one that I like. I am fortunate enough not to have money issues, however, I do not like to purchase any item and have it be a fake.
Many of the knives I have purchased just blow my mind how good they are made and the material quality.

I have since stopped buying knives new with map as of recently.

I know a dealer that does monthly sales below map but recently doesnt have selection that I like or want. But I have got some nice deals from him.

I would prefer to buy from the exchange for below map, preferably users without qc issues. Anyone selling at map or higher I usually avoid.

Raffles....this one's a bit iffy. I'll join some but only if I really want it and if the price is low enough for 1 spot. I've won a bunch so far but also could have bought a full knife for the ones I've lost from. I don't recommend people run out and join them. Some are not legit or they try and charge alot more than the knives are worth or worse get someone to mod a knife to raffle it off as a one off at higher prices even though it's dirt ugly and done by a horrible modder. So lots of pitfalls with this one.

Map is making it hard these days. Sure they are worth it... But not worth it to me if I can only get one vs many. Not to mention they usually aren't doing anything special for the heat treatment to make them stand apart from each other.

Its really upsetting when a dealer has map raised and all they are doing is shipping you the knife.then you get it and it has problems. We'll shit, we pay you more yet you don't do more. Fk that noise.

Most of my new knives over the last 20 years have been exclusive or Sprint, so I end up paying MAP.

Anything else, I wait for used or a sale.

I always try to buy knife that I want for lowest price possible and if that is over MAP (or the original MSRP because it's discontinued), so be it.

Yes, yes I do for a knife that I want. I don’t necessarily look for the best price, but rather a dealer that has a stellar service that will be a pleasure to buy from.

You're damn lucky to get a PM 3 for 135 bucks. Good luck getting one for less than 200.

I've never really even thought about it. If I want or need a knife, I shop around for the best price I can find from dealers I trust and buy it (or drool for a while while I save up for it). I rarely buy used unless I am looking for vintage, and in those cases I try (not always successful) to buy locally so I can handle the goods before I fork over the dough. The BF exchange forums has been tempting me though.
At any rate, I will seek out the best deal I can find but I don't have any clever tricks for getting a knife cheaper than anyone else. Price is only an obstacle if I cannot afford it. I then decide if I want a knife bad enough to save for it or if I should move along.

I never pay maap prices I refuse to. To me it feels like a guaranteed loss if I want to sell it, which can add up if you have a lot of knives you paid that price for. id rather wait for a lightly used one or for a sale or a sale of some kind by an individual whos selling it.I feel those prices used by ZT Spyderco BM just seem overpriced and they are just not worth it to me at this point in the game.

Since I live in Europe and want to buy a knife new I always have to pay more than MAP. that's why I mostly buy on the secondary market or wait for a special sale or wait till a friend travels to the US ;)

I dont like too and have avoided the earlier brands who implemented it. opened the door for me to look and buy other brands. now it's getting harder and harder as more and more brands bring it on. I have curbed buying due to it. I expect I'll head more towards the used market due to it as time goes on, and limit how many I can buy as I only have so much disposable income. that said maybe it's for the best. one can only use and enjoy only so many knives.

"I voted for 2, because none of the other options fit. When I'm buy a new knife, I have never known what the MAP price is on that knife. So I don't know if I paid MAP, or how much over, or under MAP I may have paid. It's not something I worry about.

O.B.
