Do you prefer RAT having a limited # of blades?

I like the number of knives currently offered plus the new models in the works. I would rather have a few very high quality models than fifty "decent" models of knives. I also like that it makes it a little easier to aquire the whole set of sizes.

As far as folders, I'm a Spyderco man. I came to RAT because I needed some bad a$$ fixed blades. Based on my Izula, I found my kind of fixed blade

I think there are enough knives as they have right now. If there were more, collecting all of them would be a lot harder, and less fun.

Besides, is there anything RAT knives can't do? ;)

theres only so many fixed blades they can make. i could agree with more colors, especially in the handles, maybe even different steels

RAT Cutlery to me is all about simple, basic designs and materials that are of the highest quality.

No exotic steel, no crazy handle designs, no tacticool blade shapes - and they don't need them - they are the ultimate in no BS utilitarian tools.

I also like how this simplicity is reflected in the lineup and in Jeff's attitude when it comes to the knife biz.

Sure they could offer 10 different variations of each model and they would all sell, and sell well I'm sure - but they dont, and I like that.

Its for these reasons that RAT has a customer for life, and why 9 times of 10 I still grab a RAT for real world chores over my other blades - including my Busses.

Some companies are just overwhelming with the amount of blades they put out and the options for each - a perfect example is Bark River. I have a few Barkies and LOVE them, dont get me wrong, but jeez was it tough when I first got into them and going through the seemingly hundreds of models...

Say "no" to any supersteel. And in my opinion, they have a great selection. It isn't really limited at all. They have (or will in the near future) have a blade for every need possible. They don't want to be redundant in the size, so they only have a certain amount out.

I think the current lineup, plus the Junglas and Lite machetes and the folder, are all that RAT needs to produce. I would love for them to reintroduce the Lazer Strike, but that's just cause I think it's cool.

Aha, but that's what you think :D

Oh yeah, they should add the machete and be done after that. The Izula folder too. But more than that and I'm giving up on getting all of them.

are you insinuating that your RAT knives can fly?:eek::eek: those must be some special knives!:eek::eek:

LASER STRIKE! the name exudes coolness.

Looks pretty cool too:thumbup:.

stick with what works.....

rat does what it does well and that has brought people to em... to stray from that i feel is folly.

If you hate the bussekin game then dont worry about it.... its not about instant gradification at all. but i have many very fine blades from all of the bussekin brands.

Well said, +1.....

I dont think that pizza example has any merit here...totally different really.

Anyway I am eagerly anticipating the folder. Once they add that and the machete I agree that less emphasis should be put on knives because all there bases will be covered.

Part of this phenomena also comes from the fact that they have just one knife designer, Rowen. Look at benchmade, they have a ton of people designing for them and switch it up from time to time. Those designers may even be competing with each other on sales (not really sure about the business model) and need to design tools that fit the same function with different form.

That said, I like RAT for this fact. It makes me think that I may end up with all of them someday, and turns that into a goal worth pursuing. A company like benchmade has so many that I know I'll never even dent such a collection, so it doesn't even seem worth trying.

Note: I'm not dissing benchmade. My father and I have more benchmades than any other brand.

Just to set things straight, Rowen is the manufacturer, not the designer. Jeff and Mike come up with the designs. When the Izula folder comes out, it'll be a RAT user inspired design.
