APEX Edge Pro for ~10 years.

TS PROF K03 stationary in the kitchen for the last 2 year. Good old APEX EP stored packed with a couple of basic stones and used occasionally to reprofile knives while visiting friends.

Someone here told of a hunting friend who bought a Buck 110 used it until it was dull snapped the blade and send it in for warranty replacement. Talk about taking advantage of a good company.

Most hardware stores have sharpening services. Some have automatic machines.

Of course. They only knives that never need sharpened are pocket jewelry / safe queens and I don’t own any of those.

IMO every man should know how to sharpen a knife no matter the method used. I sharpen all my own. No way I’m trusting some dude at a hardware store with my knives.

I agree, it’s one of those things. If I could not do it I’d work on it until I could.

Some people have physical limitations and need those services. Thankfully not me.

Uh, that’s just dumb. Don’t they sharpen their knives under the warranty anyway? Most good USA companies will do that for free, so I don’t understand the purpose of snapping the blade…. 😵‍💫

Probably saved on shipping? Idk. I agree dumb and ignorant

Companies like Benchmade include lifetime sharpening services with your purchase. Shipping is the deal breaker there.

Honestly I’m not impressed with most factory edges why would I want them to do it again?
I hear you, but I also think that this was, and is, a method to keep those who aren't 'knife knuts' sweet. When they eventually spending some serious cash on a good knife, with the company offering free sharpening is way to keep the customer impressed after they destroy the edge. If they didn't have the offer of free sharpening, then, although baseless, there would be many customers saying the knife doesn't hold its edge etc.

Yep, I sharpen my edc and kitchen/hunting knives, and kitchen knives for the family. This includes serrated bread knives, tomato knives etc. I use Lansky or KME guided rod systems, as well as a Worksharp Elite Belt system, whichever seems more appropriate. I use a loaded strop to touch up edges on a regular basis.

I learned to free hand sharpen as a kid, taught by my dad. In a pinch I still do, but prefer the ease and predictability of the sharpening systems.

If I get a new knife and it has a decent edge, I'll use it until it needs sharpening.
There are some knives I don't and won't sharpen for various reasons. They don't get used much either.
