Do you still have your 1st knife?

So going through my collection I always come across these three knives that I had since I remember. The DE or Diamond Edge as etched on the blade I got for Christmas in the mid 70s. I thought that was the coolest thing in the world! See, I was the kid that got the 3 pack of underwear usually! The Western trapper I got in '79 for Christmas as well, only I got the IOU for it on Christmas Day, had to wait awhile before I got it. I always looked at it in Kmart every time I went in there. The fixed blade is made by Compass, the sheath has " made in Western Germany". Now my dad didn't part with money very easy and if I got a dollar in a birthday card he would tell me to save it...even if I really wanted those baseball cards, etc. so normally the answer to anything I wanted to buy was...you don't need that! So, in 1976 or 77 a department store named Big N was closing down in the nearby town of Cortland, NY. Well, they had this knife and the store was down to the 60% or so off and the knife, from what I remember was $6-9. With extreme hesitation I approach my father and told him about the deal and if I could get this knife...waiting for the typical response of no you don't need that, I was shocked when he never dropped the newspaper down so I could see his face and he just answered...I don't care. Whaaaat? I thought. My not trying to lose my winning streak I said thanks and hauled my butt into the next room before he changed his mind. Anyway still have all three.

Happy 4th! And for the sacrifice!

I still have the first knife that I bought. A small Boker traditional of some sort. It is around here somewhere.

My first knife IIRC, was a Camillus folder when I was in Cub Scouts. No clue where that is or when I lost it.

Sadly I don't I planted several and broke others. The oldest knife I have still I was given to me is my 1984 Old Timer 8OT.

A single blade Queen bone stag integral frame barlow from my grandfather - 65 years ago - still have it.

I still have my first knife. It was given to me by my dad on my fourth birthday in 1950. It was a post-war made in Japan pot metal blade of about 3-1/2 inches with plastic imitation stag handle slabs with a compass insert into the left side.

First one ever, no. That would have a been a red Swiss Army Knife I had as a kid.

First knife I bought for myself? Yes, I have all of my earliest knives that I bought. Gerber Mark II Survival knife I bought in 1978 or so (which I don't have pics of but it's still around and in decent shape) and these two I bought in 1979. The Buck 110 is in good shape. The Parker-Frost (Schrade) has had a rougher life, but I still have it. I also still have a Schrade Sharpfinger from the same era, late 70s.

Technically my first knife was a vic classic that I found at an amusement park when I was 3, my mom took it till I was old enough to have it and forgot to give it to me.
My real first knife was a dollar store multi function knife so obviously I don't have it anymore ( I wish my first was something good, but it was enough of a knife to learn knife handling )

I still have the cheap fixed blade that I redeemed by scrounging popsicle wrappers until I had enough to send in. That would have been in about 1952.

Still have my first knife, an Ulster two-blade jack knife that I purchased as a kid sometime around 1958. I bought if from a local hardware store. I was a couple pennies short of the price, but the salesman sold it to me anyway. Ulster Knife Co. was founded in 1870 in Ellenville, NY, but the company was sold in 1941.

Yes, i's a "Nato military" cheap OTF from mid-80s. Ugly and bad blade but still working : (not my video)

I have the Camillus camp knife that my folks bought for me when I was a new Boy Scout. I would guess that was around 1962 or 1963. When I was a teenager, Dad got ahold of it and carried it and used it. It was a tool to him and it got plenty of hard use. I remember him using it to cut roof shingles. It was sharpened many times with a course puck. The carbon steel blades were darkly stained but no rust was to be found. After Dad died in 1976, I came across the knife amongst his things and relegated it to a drawer with other odds and ends. About ten years ago, I came across it and decided to clean it up and add it to my daily carry knives. It's clean and lubricated and sharp and it is carried on occasion. If Dad hadn't appropriated it, it would likely have been lost.

Gardener my dad gave me when I was 4. I still have it, keep it razor sharp, and still use frequently for woodworking tasks. In fact, I always use it for that purpose except one time, and I remember the whole time thinking "this would be so much easier with the Gardener".

I don't believe I still have my very first knife that I purchased when I was in the second grade. Have a boxes of stuff still pretty much unlooked at for many years which could contain such, but I doubt it. I do have the first Case Barlow I purchased when I was around 10 years old. It is wore out. The main blade is worn down to a thin nub.

Ha! Nope, I can barely even remember what it was!!

My guess would be a Gerber of some sort....

Would like to see a picture of that if you feel like posting.

I do. It's a short dagger (with a red-material handle topped by a pewter(?) horse head). The sheath is brown leather that has a short carrying chain and metal accents. Given to me by my dad when I was about 8.
