Do you still have your "first" knife?

I was just thinking back over my years of knife collecting. My mind wandered all the way back to my first knife, an Old Timer, I received for my 8th birthday. I did a lot of whittling with that little knife, including a bit of thumb removal. I still have that pea-sized scar that sent me screaming for "Mama!"

Anyway, I was just curious as to whether anyone else still remembered and had their first knife.

I'll post a photo of it later today.

PS I still have my first computer hard drive too.... All 192MB of it. :)

It was a small Laplandish puukko, I must have got it around age of 6 or maybe even earlier. Unfortunately I don't know where it is today, but I have the scars to remind me. :)

I found an old Camillus boyscout knife in a ditch when I was about 10. Still have it. The first knife that was given to me was either a Case Sodbuster or a Oldtimer Stockman. I got them real close to the same time, so I can't remember which came first, but I still have them both.

I'm not sure. I lost my Kabar stockman, replaced it, then found the original about a year later. I still have 1 of them, but not sure if it was the first one or the replacement.

Got a Kamp King on my 7th b-day then later that summer got my brothers Utica Cub Scout knife cause he got his Boy Scout knife.

I still have my original swiss army knife. its been missing the toothpick for many years, the tweezers are somewhere in the virignia woods, or the banks of the chesapeake.

the slabs are long lost, i have been meaning to set something nice on them and epoxy them down. the blade has been shapened so many times its looks more like a letter opener than the blade it once was.

:) yeah i still have it. no particular reason why, but i know luck played a big part in my keeping it this long.

You should have started aq thread about all the knives we have lost over the years :) i bet that would bring some tears.

Yup, I still have my first knife. It's an old, cheapie Imperial barlow in carbon steel. It probably cost less than $5 back in the early 80's, but it was the most beautiful thing in the world to me back then. Suprisingly, I took good care of it- the blades are still in great shape, and have developed a nice patina over the years. The super-cheap plastic scales have shrunk a bit, and I don't think the overall fit was ever very good, but it should last for many more years. I plan on handing it down to my son someday. It won't be his first- I plan on giving him something much nicer to start out with.

Nope.

First one given to me was a SAK Classic, just like Dad had. Knife is long gone to parts unknown.

First knife I purchased myself was some large Rambo style survival knife, stainless, with a hollow handle for survival items, and a compass at the end of the handle. Probably a 6-7" blade and I had to keep it hidden so my Mom wouldn't know I had it. It's long gone as well.

No, and yes.

I don't have my very first knife, a non-discript pocket knife handed down to me by my brother.

But I do have the first knife I ever purchased for myself, a Schrade Old Timer liner lock. (circa 1970's)

Yeah, I do. the SOG SOGwinder. Just for kicks I went to do
a google search and this thing is still for sale!!! I can't believe
it. I bought it when I was maybe 10 to 12 years old, so mine is almost
20 years old now. And they still want what I paid for it back
then, around 60 bucks or more! The thing is a tough knife, but
has a lot of play and has 440 steel and quality is not 100%. I'd
never pay that much for it. But then, it has lasted almost 20
years. Ah, memories. This is the knife that started it all...

was a early '70's camillus #26 2 bladed hunter that was my grandads, even got the custom sheath with it, was like carrying a folding short sword:D
The honest truth too i carried it damn near everyday even to school (junior High and High school) different time back then and i didnt advertise the fact that i carried it:) The pict looks pretty good and hides all the dings gouges, scratches, the battle scars, only thing that would make it even better were if it were carbon steel:)

I can remember trading for a yellow handled jack of some sort back when I was 7 or 8- Can't even remember how long I had it-
But I gave a kid $5 for his Dad's WWII Cattaraugus 225Q when I was around 14- My mother took it from me after I had carried it almost every day for a year under my untucked shirt- In my late twenties, around 1987, she brought me a box with that 225Q and a few other knives in it- I still have it- So I guess that I could at least say that I still have the first knife I ever paid forp

I have my first knife and it was a Schrade LB7 lockback. It is in fairly good condition for all I did with that knife.

No; it's long gone:o! I believe it was stolen with the silve dollar my Grandfather gave me right out of high school:grumpy:.

Yup...Schrade Uncle Henry of some sort. don't know the model. I have lost it and found it about 9999999999 times

My first one was a Swedish Made stag handled hunting knife back in 1956. I still have it.
