Do you suffer from compulsive knife opening/flipping disorder?

Do you open and close your knives compulsively?

I don't know why, but this is a new habit for me. I've had knives for the past 20 years, and only the past year have I begun this behavior. Using my CRKS as "worry beads".

I dont windmill Nolan Ryan wrist flick them open and crank it open. Hell I don't even thumb flick.

Slow, gentle baby openings only. Still I can see this being a problem down the line. I simply cannot help myself.

Even during breaks at work, I'll bust out my days EDC for a few minutes.

It is what it is. I enjoy it. If I wear them out I'll just buy more I guess

Wondering how many people here, if any, suffer the same affliction

Guilty. As a matter of fact I have sold all my knives that don’t meet this criteria first and foremost and all future buys look at this first. Thus why I only have 5 knives anymore after buying hundreds.

My earliest memory that involved a knife goes back some 60 years. I recall opening and closing it - repeatedly -along with testing the sharpness of it by sawing at my arm - while hiding on the floor in the back seat of my mother's car. I recall also my mother yelling at that I'd "better not be cutting myself again!" :D :D Now - 60 plus years later - I have a few knives sitting around - who's only function in life is to be there for me to "flick" open and closed.

I occasionally fiddle, until it annoys my wife. If you have problems with playing with your knives do not buy an OTF automatic or this will be the sound track of your life for a while:

snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick snick

No I don’t fidget. Fidgeting is a sign of other issues. Stress, ADD, compulsive disorders. Etc.

If it is just with a knife you might be able to justify it as enjoying you hobby.

If you fidget all the time. You may need help.

Also fidgeting sends a message to people that you are unstable and spasmadic. Fidgeting with weapons sends a more dramatic even less desirable message.

I know it’s a fun thread, and I’m not judging. But some may have a real problem I don’t want to minimize it.

Nope. In 30+ years of knife carrying, I've never been a fidget-er. The only time I play with the action is if I clean and lube the pivot and want to work it in some. To me, that constitutes about 7-8 openings after I clean it. Then I put it down.

My knife tends to sit in my cargo pocket until I use it for cutting.

Like eveled, I'm not judging you crazy fidget people :p.

No. And "there's nothing wrong with the fidgeting thing"... However, I like to test the flickability of my folding blades, from time to time : like, do they still fold out well ? OK ? Let's get back to fixed blades, then... Like, get's serious finally...

Only when sitting at my desk. I don’t carry one-handed openers, but I own a few that have a fidget factor.

I beg to differ... I have a Kydex sheath for my hunting rig that locks in handle down on the right shoulder strap in front. We have MONSTER black bears in my woods- 600 pounders are not uncommon, and there are at least 20 tagged bears within "pinging" distance of my house. Not that I have any illusions about how helpful a knife would be, but it's possible.
I test out the quick draw by reaching up and pulling it out of the sheath at least a half dozen times when hiking/bowhunting. Definitely impresses my buddies : )

Thanks for the prognosis Dr. Judgey Mc Buzzkill :D:D

I used to as well. Every now and again I still do. It drives me nuts when I catch myself doing it. I don’t carry flippers or axis locks for that reason. Can’t stand it
