I got some random email that went on in pretty good detail about what a jerk I am on the forum. Don't know who sent it, but it did get me to wondering... "So am I???"

I've been posting on here for a long time, and have gone from not being able to grind a blade to save my life back in '99, to a point of actually having people pay me to teach them how I do stuff in my shop.

In that time I've gone from the kid asking for help, to (sometimes) the one trying to give help, but ALWAYS feeling that I am a student of this craft and being the one looking for help, advice, and ways to learn.

I know I'm a real smart-ass... but I never really thought I was a dick to anybody on here. But then again, I don't suppose most a$$holes think that they're an a$$hole.

So what say you peoples of Bladeforums???

Ps- I'm not looking to add or take away names from my "People to Kill List" ;) LOL... I'm just wondering if I need to work on how I project myself around here. I'd rather not be known as the resident dick wad. :)

You serious dude? I love talking to you. Your hilarious. I think if people don't understand your humor than they arent worth worrying about. Its shocking to me that someone could think badly of you. Your a friend and a really good guy it seems.

I met you at Wulf's HI in Vermont a couple of years ago. You seemed to be pleasant and helpful to anyone who asked you a question. Giving people help/adviced is very typical of members on this forum.

As far as being a dick head, jeez, just look at IG :eek:, no, I personally think you're an Okay guy.

Yeah, their is a lot of ball bustin' over here, but it's all in fun.

I'm with larry on this one, If you're a jerk on here, then IG is on a whole nother planet of assness. And since I actually choose to hang around with the guy, logic would dictate, you must be a pretty good guy. See, that logic class I took paid off! As far a the email goes, F'em. You seem like a pretty alright guy to me(and I'm the only one you need to impress anyway):D:rolleyes:

wow...i don't even believe someone sent u an email like that....i for one am thankful you DO POST HERE....and i hope it continues....i mean like a week ago i asked nick a question about what mortised tangs meant....not only do i get an answer in a private message but a thread WITH pictures.....i only meant nick one time and that was enough to help inspire me to follow my dream to make knives.....thanks for all your hard work nick and keep it up....and to the person who wrote that email-go back under the rock u came from....ryan:thumbup:
 
Always seemed to be helpful to me, the email reads as if written by some 8 year old. His Momma was not at home and he used her laptop and email addy. I love this part of the forum, even though I am not a maker, I am learning and when I retire soon, I may take it up. Until then, I am all ears and eyes learning from some of the best.

Go Buddy, burn that email, :p and get on with your life.

I would not worry about it the person who sent you that email is an obvious dickhead:jerkit:.
Not having the guts to be man enough to sign it shows there colours:D. I read a heck of a lot more than i post on and you have always helped out when you can and there is nothing wrong with calling them as you see them. Thanks for being part of this forum.

Nick, you have never been or seemed to me to have been anything but, decent and helpful. Is it possible that your email address and mine somehow got mixed up and the email was meant for me. Relax, there are always a few malcontents. Everyone is not the same nor is their manner and way of expressing themselves. Some people take things the wrong way or take a little bit of criticism a long long way. Just keep being you. Jim
 
Guys, it occurred to me that this could end up looking like me begging to get my ego stroked, but that's really not the case.

I thought maybe I have been harsh on people or maybe just misunderstood... and since I don't want to be thought of as a prick I thought it was worth asking.

To prevent looking like I take myself TOO seriously... I added the two extra options on the poll :)

If you got 50 or 60 emails it mite make you a jerk. it is probably someone that is trying to learn like me. probably 15 years old going on twelve, and does not like what you told him about his effort . Not smart enough to take it and learn.

Sometimes you get caught up in things and don't realize how you're behaving. And I'd lot rather be one of the good guys than one of the dicks :)
