Nick i dont know you but i do read your post and they are always friendly and informative.:jerkit:

What a weird thread. What does this have to do with knife making?

I am afraid I am going to have to go against the "Nick is great" crowd and say you suck! ;)
Just kidding of course.
Really though it’s not all bad to do some self critiquing now and again.

This forum sometimes gets a bad rep for being harsh, unfriendly, and clickish. I do love this forum!
Knife makers are a weird bunch it’s not surprising if they get misunderstood from time to time on a forum like this. The sucky thing about this email you got is that someone would judge you before they ever met you. I will wait until I get a chance to talk to you face to face before I form any kind of opinion on whether or not you’re a dick.

Here is some food for thought. If a new member acted like you do on the forum I would not be surprised if they got some grief for their behavior. I personally am glad you’re here. I think you add to the forum. On the other hand it may be a little conceded to start a thread “Do you think Nick Wheeler is a jerk?”:)

Ha Ha!

"Jerk ass" That's priceless. I was thinking more along the lines of "dildo" or something. (Can I say that here?)

Seriously, you haven't struck me as an ass in any thread I've read.

Now Stacy? Lets talk about Stacy for a moment. I think he may be an "in the closet" nerd. I'm sorry Stacy, I know words hurt. Wear it as a badge of pride. A burly, hammer swinging, steel mashing, Mr. nerd. There, I said it. I feel better now...

You guys are right, it probably doesn't seem to have much to do with knifemaking, but I spend a lot of time hanging around here trying to pick up new ideas and trying to help people learn as well.

I figured if people see me as a jerk and I'm not helping, then I either need to rethink my approach, or just plain leave. I'm not a pretentious person, so it's not like I think anyone would really miss me if I left... but I didn't figure there was much point in sticking around if this guy's email was the norm around here.

I can see at this point where it just looks like I wanted some pats on the back... but that's NOT it. Not at all.

I am curious what kind of behavior I portray that a new maker would get grief for. :) Seriously.

you manwhore:p

and its KNIVES...........not knifes:rolleyes: good greif

if someones going to bitch, the least they could do is spellcheck

Having met you and talked way back when I attended PNW knife shows and having read your post these past few years, I can assure you that you are not a jerk. You're a very talented kid (yeah, "kid" to an old fart like me :-) who is a great addition to the forums! Don't sweat it.

Who is this Nick Wheeler and why should I care?

I think most of us have have figured out who the hurt child is from that email snippet. Looks like one of our newer posters that has been asking the same question over and over and over again.

Nick, along the journey there are people just best left on the side of the road and not worth looking back at.

Difference between you and me is that I know I'm an ass, by nature and by training. :D

Nick you are lucky you do not live closer to me as you would be sick of kicking me out of your shop and alll my dumb ?. I learned a long time that not all people will like all people. but when a person has mad skills like you they are easy to hate. I know that every one that is making JS knives right now Hates you for setting the bar so high. with that said you bring a lot to BF and the knife community thank you. Don't change.

I voted no, but only because I'm lulling you into a false sense of security so that I can bring you down to my level when the time is right!

-don't let the bastards get ya down, bro! Being true to yourself is more important than some dumbass on a web forum thinking you're okay.

Never argue with a Matt Gregory, he'll drag you down to his level and beat you with experience!

I cant call you a big fat jerk, you're not fat, and you could probably snap me like a twig =D

I've never seen you being a jerk, and my only beef with you is that you never finished that work in progress thread of yours from this summer !

Nick,

You're on my list of folks I want to visit (within reach of Boise, Idaho). I've spent time with some legends of the blacksmithing world (retired but still keep a shop), modern blacksmiths and the more specialized bladesmiths.
I Like your shop set up and enthusiasm so I was planning on swinging by sometime in the spring (if OK...I always ask first) after visiting RR in Oregon and Tai in Arizona (again). I certainly wouldn't want to visit a jerk :)

Hey Nick
Illigitimi non carborundum (don't let the bastards grind you down)
whomever the sender was, they obviously can't break one hand away from pullin on their junk long enough to hit the shift key when they need capital letters, nor are they educated enough to realize that "2" and "to", while they sound alike are not interchangeable. Probably some 14 year old text messaging addicted troll.
Oh yes, you are a jerk.
I'm a jerk,
IG is a jerk,
I'm sure to some folks who think you can become an expert knifemaker overnight without putting in the time we're all jerks. Personally I'm grateful for the thread where you showed how you joined two bands of damascus at the end of a blade so it didn't look like a pattern break, that was an "of course, that makes sense" moment that has been helpful.

I'm still waiting for the followup pictures of the girl in your shop holding your finished knife though :D

Nick we all know ya and appreciate ya because weve all been here for 10 years now. Your email sounds like a youngster and newbie both and is only reading words in your posts. You arent a jerk ass to us mature makers although I'm jealous of those dam biceps and that anvil you have. Kids these days need some direction. All they get is bad news from everywhere they turn. Did you email him/her back?

Nick , like you were told in counseling , these types of fan mail were to be expected , you cant just drop out of being the front man for the back street boys and start making knives and not expect to upset some fans.

Have you tried singing while you hammer ? Perhaps you could combine both of your passions: Knifemaking and being a teen idol.

also , you need to change your stage name Nick " Big Wheeler King Killer Cat Peeler " Wheeler is darn tuff to print on T-shirts.

;)

Seriously , don't sweat it , I have had hate mail and actual death threats tossed my way. Talkers talk , nothing to worry about my friend.

Hey I've been called a thread crasher! I think I'm going to change my BF name to that:D
