I work at a hospital and I usually carry a Leatherman and a Victorinox of some kind. Working at a hospital there are a lot of sheeple who would be freaked out by a larger folder, so I keep it simple.
I use mine all the time on EMS tours to open plastic bags that a lot of the equipment is packaged in as well as other various tasks. Even though I carry trauma shears, they are strapped into my cargo pocket and less accessible than just slipping my knife out of my pocket. Its simply a convenience thing. I never have and never would use it to extricate a patient though- too pointy and would probably scare the patient even if it had a rounded point.
