Do you USE EVERY knife you own?

I use them all, but don't make it out to the woods enough anymore to use my fixed blades very much.

I don't have anything against safe queens, I just don't have the cash for knives that aren't going to get used (I'm not really sure i have the cash for the ones I do use).

I've used almost all of mine, to varying degrees. I've been selling all the knives I have that haven't seen any EDC rotation in the last six months.

Of course, some just get carried less than others, or have been used just for cutting tasks around the house. Mostly those are small and large fixed blades.

An object has purpose and utility -- in other words, it is "used" -- if it adds beauty to a space or otherwise enhances your life.

No. there are several knives I dont use. I have a bunch of rare Kershaws that I use and an EKA W11 fixed blade and some Moras. All the other ones like Bucks, Cold Steels, Bökers etc rarely see any light of day.

I only use about 5% of the knives I own. The rest are safe queens. But all of them COULD be used if need be.

I bought my wife several display cases from collectible stores for $75-$150. One, the $75 cheapie, I recycled as it was too small for her. Octagonal, all glass upper - with three glass shelves and a mirrored bottom shelf, it has just enough room for most of my knives. I got some display stands for the Bucks, Pumas, Bark Rivers, etc - fixed and folders. The larger ones lay between the shelves on the glass. The twin halogen lamps do light them up nicely, and the lower cabinet stores their sheaths and boxes. Both are locked - but that key is used often, as I sometimes just have to change my EDC, etc - or fondle them.

I was going to get pairs of some - one for display, one for looks. I couldn't afford that. I have even carried my most expensive folder - a Buck Custom Shop 110 in teardrop Damascus - but have to admit that a basic $25 110 from Wally World seems better suited for such. I didn't get very far duplicating my Buck 102, 103, 103, 119, & 120 - all 'BR' - brass/rosewood - and too pretty to use. I so far have only the 119 & 120 in phenolic/aluminum as 'users' - great kitchen knife, that 119! I did get an AG 192 in S30V, while a regular 192, still as beautiful to me, is my older 'woods walker' user. I do have a few I'll likely not carry - purchased at a 'deal' because of their looks/sentiment - 'collectors' and the like of the Puma 'White Hunter'. Still, looking at them and 'fondling' them is 'use', I suppose. I certainly don't 'need' most of them!

A great next question might be "Which five knives would you keep, if you really had to part with the rest?". You might just find the real 'users' out there!

I like that Gollnick! In that case ALL my knives are used. But some of there "use" is to add beuty. ;)

The knives I do not use, is either i bought them to fill a niche or I havent gotten around to it or the materials they are made of mean more to me pristine than in use. Some things I like to keep mint....just my perogative.

I currently have about a hundred knives in my collection. I have two that will never see a tree or dirt. I guess that means I use them all with only 2 blades that were designed by me and made by a custom knife maker.

I even EDC a Pat Crawford Titanium Brick! I really think you should use your knives unless they were bought strictly for beauty and heirloom value.

I have never sold a knife I bought or was given, and I am certain I never will. To me each is like one of my friends. I polish them, carry them on a rotating basis so they all see daylight. And I enjoy wearing them on my hip daily.

It's that darn leather that gives me fits! I want two or three different custom sheaths for ever fixie I own!

RRRRrrr

Peace.

This is kind of a tough question. I have two that for sentimental reasons, are retired. Some that won't get used are duplicates. If I find a knife that I like,I generally get two or more and save the extras. I probably have five or six Swiss army Explorers for example. I have no idea how many spyderco endura/delicas I have. I have tried to keep up to the improvements Mr. Glesser and crew seem to be continually coming up with. Good luck. I used to just buy one ,but then they started having them with movable clips,so then I started getting one for each side. Then they started improving the steel. Anyhow you get the idea. Other than that all my knives are users, just not used as often as I'd like.

I don't use every knife I own on a regular basis, but I have used every knife I own at one point or another.

Mine are all users but I have so many that I can't began to use them all. However I have never bought a knife that I planned to just put away in a safe.

I don't use most of my knives. They're in place to be used, but as just in case. I also have several that I picked up because they were older/rarer productions that I don't intend to use.

90% of my knives, mostly Busses, have not and will never be "used" as long as I have them. I have a few designated users and see no need to use the others.

However, all of them have been "useful." My collection was built up primarily over three very difficult years in my life after my daughter's hit and run head injuries. I was there every day in the hospital and nursing home, and then at home as her primary caregiver. I was totally unable to get into my beloved outdoors, and the knife collecting, along with the cameraderie of the Busse "family", was my only outlet. Helped to preserve my sanity.

Being new to knives I have a small collection and they all get used but my BM minigrip get used the most only because I like it the most. I'm sure as I "improve" my collection it will be used a little less.

"Life is not a rehearsal" as somebody said.
I used to keep my "best" knives as "queens".
I decided to try them out as users,a revolution of thinking I do believe.
You can work-out what`s the most capable on the day, just show or hard use.
You can only see what the knife is like by "using" it.

I'd say I use about 90% of 'em, the ones I don't use are just because they are irreplaceable and even those are occasionaly carried, gently used and proudly shown. :)
