Do you USE EVERY knife you own?

I am fussy when it comes to deployment (how it carries and ease of getting the knife into use) and handle fit. Thus I have a lot of drawer queens. Soom are Randall 15 with border grip. Do not like the grip or the sheath. I have a custom high end kerambit with a custom sheath made in canada by Vess. The sheath is terrible for quick deployment. However as is normal for Vess it is a beautiful work of art. The handle of the karambit is not comfortable to me.

I had a pikal made by Mr. Goldsworthy. He makes great Pikals. I had the idea that a forward finger hole would be interesting. The sheath and knife were made exactly to my specs. The finger hole to me, slows down deployment from the weak hand. However from the strong side it is okay. So it is not perfect. And it is all my fault.

Got a Gerber silver trident. Ordered unseen, looked at it once and it is still in box.

Got a Cold Steel trailmaster thats the big bowie knife. When practicing on a post in backyard it distributes lots of shock to my arm. I have a custom made bowie/boar knife that absolutely never gives any shock. To me this CS knife has no redeeming qualities.

Blackhawk Crucible trainer used for a Janick seminar and never used again. The handle is not to my liking and the deployment of the blade is very slow. I read that others on this forum have complained about the difficulty of blade deployment with the standard knife. Just too stiff.

Rekat hobbit fixed blade that gets very little use. I love my everything about the knife. I wish I lived in a more friendly state.

The MOD stinger mark 6 is a great knife. I talked to Mr. Deiter and he said that the stringer was to him going to be (He thought) a great seller. It was a commercial flop. The handle on this knife is close to perfect the sheath is good. I modified the blade and now I need a good sheath. But in fixed blade friendly states this is a nice EDC.

Have a spyderco military. Did not like the clip. Had a custom titanium clip made and reversed the location. Still not happy. Sat is the drawer. Mercop suggested a custom belt holster made by Phil Smith of Phil Smith knives. What depressing at the time was converting from a fixed blade to a folder. When you sit in a car or really anywhere. Try to get to your knife. So the use of the Military was frustrating to me. Changed the clip location and added a zip tie. A wave is just to difficult to deploy under certain conditions. So the knife was rarely used. Enter the Phil smith belt holster and a drawer queen becomes a EDC.

To me a knife is a system. The sheath is just as important as the knife. Concerning oneself about grades of steel or how pretty a sheath is should be subordinative to the actual working knife system. This is just a portion of the knives sitting in the drawer.

all of my knives are users, in that i am not afraid to use them. all of my knives have seen pocket (or belt) carry at one point or another. i only have about 15 knives i would guess that are in my little knife basket, those are the ones that i don't actively have on my person.

but then there are several other "shop" knives i call them. kitchen knives ground out to scrape paint or do ugly cutting, old recip saw blades with a sharp edge put on for marking, things like that. i don't really count those though. they are all over the place.

all of my knives are bought with the intention of using. if they don't fit mood i won't carry them that day, and i have my favorites, but i trade off the ones that i have used that just don't feel right.

I talked to Jim Ray the founder of MOD knives after Blackhawk bought him out and the stinger was discontinued.

Sorry for the mixup Deiter.

I do not have any safe queens. I have 6 knives that were retired for sentimental reasons but believe me they were used hard before that. I also have several that were used and I ended up not liking them, they live in the drawer waiting to be traded off.

So far, I have acquired knives only to use. Although all have been worked, some have been replaced in my EDC lineup by more recent additions to the inventory, either because they weren't a good fit (none were bad) or something "better" came along. Most of those displaced have been or will be sold, traded or given away. Some I keep around for "just in case," like when I packed a slip joint for a trip to England, where knife carry laws prohibit locking blades. Still, I have accumulated more than I really need.

Just between us, I could get by with one (or two), if it came to that. For my first 30 years since age 12, I owned only one knife at a time (my wife procured all our kitchen knives.) So, in my older years, I have become a collector, after all. :)
