Do you use your higher-end knives or keep them minty?

Unless I end up not liking a knife (pretty much the only reason so far is ergonomics) the knife gets used regardless of how much I paid for it. Just remember that the amount of money that you spent to get a knife is an entirely separate thing from the knife itself.

It's pretty unanimous, like in most hobbies, most won't bat an eye at using regardless of cost, albeit carefully.

Life is too short, and I get much more pleasure in using my high-end knives rather then letting them sit in a drawer. Although some see alot more pocket time, then others.

I buy them to use them. However I try not to miss use any of my knives. Different jobs sometime require different knives.

I have several knives in the hundred dollar range. My most expensive is a sage 2. I use a handful of knives because some I don't like as much. I bought them all to use.

The only knives in my collection that i don't put to work are my pre-70's Case knives because they aren't as easy to locate in good condition these days.
Everything else gets a good workout.

Use it.
I would.
Lol.
I love knives and enjoy carrying and using them.
I wouldn't spend $400+ on something for it to sit and not be used.

It's like spending $400+ on a game system(PS3 when it first came out) and not using it because it was so expensive and is pretty to look at.
Sure once PS3's are gone that PS3 may be worth a bit but what's the fun in just letting it sit there?

I use all of my knives. I don't own one knife that I could say is new.
Yes holding and fondling, looking at and appreciating the knife for what it is, is great and part of the fun.
But carrying and using the knife, appreciating its cutting power, watching it get little marks over time, and letting it become a reliable friend is the best part to me.

With knives that I really like, I get duplicates and sometimes a third one if I get carried away. This way I can use it, and have a preneed replacement, because a lot of the good ones become increasingly rare and it is an investment at the worse. This applies to low and high end knives for me.

I only have one CF Stretch and it will remain NIB until I secure another.

I wouldn't use a truly high end knife, but more power to the person who thinks $10,000+ is the right price point for opening mail or slicing apples.

I look at knives as investments that have to pay for themselves/earn their keep. They can't do that without being used, unless they're some sort of uber-collectable rarity, of which I own none. I have a CRK Sebenza and Busse CABS, as well as other higher end knives that have both been put to the test on numerous occasions.

There is something dignified about carrying and using a knife until you're gone, whenever I find an old Case or a nice used Spyderco it gives me more joy to buy that knife because, to me, all the signs of use and years of carry mean that this is a reliable old tool, that has become, dare I say, a work of art? And I am more apt to buy a knife that has the signs of age and still holds strong than a brand new knife that hasn't "earned it's stripes" yet. Just my opinion, take it or leave it.

I use 'em. The Blur and Mini-Grip below are my two most expensive knives, and they both get carried and used.

I personally like to use my knives... no matter how much they are worth.... although there may be a few that i will just keep in the safe... for several reasons

I beat the snot out of my 0561. I'm definitely abusing it. My thought process is that the extra money I spend on a knife should go into over-engineering it such that it can take the abuse.
