Do you use your over $1000 folder daily?

I don't own any $1000 knifes,

but if I did, I would half way be tempted to carry it on me daily just to know that it is safe, and not left at home where burglars or fire could strike.

Plus, if I am putting that kind of coin down on a blade, it better get hella use.

I would only buy a folder from a reputable maker. Luckily my taste run in the 300 to 400. I also have a fixed in the 500s and I use them all. You'll soon forget the cost when you use them.

You bumped a 5 year old thread... Necropost for Halloween?

I have a Hinderer XM-24 enroute and I bought it with the intention of it being a user. Buying a knife like a Hinderer and not using it would be a real shame. The knife did cost $1150, but that just re-assures its ruggedness for hard use :D

I am soo stoked for this one!

I understand and respect my knife-nut brothers who love their Sebenzas, but it ain't me. For day-to-day stuff, I've got a Buck 186 folder (cheap knife). Not a fancy knife but well-built, good steel, and I keep it sharp. It opens boxes, cuts cord and electrical tape, etc. Personally, I do *not* need a $500 knife to do that, but then again, I see my daily use folder differently than Sebenza owners. For them, it's about the personal satisfaction and craftsmanship (as well as beauty).

That said, I own some custom fixed blade knives that cost a lot of money, and I do use those! But I see them differently. I need them to perform in the woods, hold an edge exceptionally well. I need the craftsmanship. But, to be honest, I'd probably be just fine with a cheap Cold Steel hunting knife. But my knives give me piece of mind in case I really need my knife.

I purposely put a scratch in the band of a Z series Rolex Sea Dweller after paying cash at an AD. That way the next scrape won't bother me. I routinely used a $900 Burn stiletto at home and at restaurants as a steak knife and more.

$500-$600 is my limit for any knife - whether it be a fixed blade or a folder. I carry everything I own.

There are some stunning custom William Henry pieces I would like to own - and I would carry them. Maybe after the kids finish college.

Nothing wrong with owning knives worth $1,000+ - I say carry them and use them.

A lot of the ornate and highly embellished knives with exotic materials and finishes aren't meant to be used except for display or ceremony. I try to use all the knives I have, but then again, I don't have any $1K+ ones. Swords, yes. The cost went into performance, kinda like some of my rifles.

With my income and age I think it would be irresponsible to spend $1000+ on a knife right now. I'm not against the concept, but just not right for me.

However when I do reach an income level where that's feasible you'll be sure that it will see pocket time. If it's a dressy knife then of course it'll be paired with a suit for light duty use. But it will be carried and used. I do that for my Sebenza and my SnG.
