do you wash your pocket knifes before and after cutting food?

I wipe them down with water and some rag/towel/pant leg after use. Nothing special and nothing before I use them. They will get special attention with some fluids, raw meat.... etc.

About the same here. Usually a blast of tap water then a dry off.

I use all my knives for food, just because i find it kinda fun... i always give them a good rinse after.

I don't use my knives to cut food. I have these lovely items called "kitchen knives" for that.

Because I know darn well all the other weird stuff I use my pocket knife to cut.

I try to keep my blades as clean as the resources around me will allow, be it wiping them on my pants, or washing them off in a sink. I am not scared of them being a little dirty, but if I have to cut a cupcake to share, I would rather not have the question of "is your knife clean?".

If you are using your pocket knife to prepare food, you are by default, in an environment where "making do" is paramount. In that situation, a dip of the blade into some boiling water can make it "all good".

Otherwise, a slice off an apple or the pealing of an orange, meh,,, a quick wipe with a shirt tail.

I would be more concerned about the health of the knife, under these circumstances, than my own. ;)

thanks for the responses! i am actually a germphobe i wash or use hand sanitizer on my hands before touching food. but other than that, i am a regular redneck. i could be dirty and muddy i could sweat smell like a pig but i am finicky about making sure what i eat will be clean.

i asked this question because i remember seeing a friend cut bread and spread peanut butter on it and i remember he gutted fish with the same knife a couple of days ago. i am pretty sure the knife wasn't cleaned. needless to say i didn't eat what he offered me i used my own SAK and spork that i keep clean in a plastic bag in my pack. i don't use my folder on food since i coat it lightly in oil periodically.

i also saw a dude take his own folder and used it to cut up steak in a steakhouse. he did look like a real cowboy.

so you carry around kitchen knives everywhere? what about when you aren't at home, around the kitchen? I'll cut food up with my knives, mainly because I know what they've done, and I keep em clean, if it's dirty, it will get a rinse/wash afterward, that way it's ready to go whenever I need it, whether it's for food or boxes, etc. I generally tend to carry more than one knife, so one is usually clean and unused.

If my knife hasn't come out of the pocket since pulling it from the collection for EDC that day, I don't worry about washing it BEFORE using it to cut food. After cutting food I will either wash the blade or wipe it as well as I can if no sink is available. When the knife get's put away in the evening, it ALWAYS gets a quick inspection, and cleaned as needed.

So some of you guys carry antibacterial soap around all the time ?
Or do you use your pocket knife for food prep at home ?
Because I only use a pocket knife to cut food when I'm not at home

lol, don't carry antibacterial soap with me all the time, so if out of the house than
I'll just wash it down with water, usually available; if not then a wipe down, any
material with suffice- always available. Once at home, it will get clean as per #50.

I keep my knife clean, wash after every use. Then its always ready to cut whatever, if I'm cutting food then I'll wipe of lint w/ a hanky I carry before use. Once you get into a regiment its easy to keep up, and you will appreciate using it over whatever dull knife a restaurant provides.

Per "thanks for the responses! i am actually a germphobe i wash or use hand sanitizer on my hands before touching food. but other than that, i am a regular redneck...i am finicky about making sure what i eat will be clean."

You ain't no redneck :)

I'll wipe pocket lint off before use and wash it with water afterwards and dry it with a napkin or something.
