I was reading the Lone Ranger thread, and it mentioned that while hats were popular in years past, no one wears a hat anymore. AS so mamny past fads have come around again, I was wondering if the hat thing would come back?
I personally have a vintage 1800's Derby that i like to wear out on occasion.
I also have several custom made "welding caps" www.allamericanhats.com
Does anyone here wear a hat? I guess baseball style hats don't realy count.

a fellow hat lover! nice to meet ya!

i would have to say the hat I wear the most is my MSA skull guard hard hat I wear at work. not much of a fashion statement but hey it protects the old noggin ;)!

outside of work my favorite hat is my stetson three forks. I also have a leather "outback" style hat, OR seatle sombrero and REI explorer hat. I have quite the baseball hat collection but they just don't get that much wear time with my three forks around.

I can't say if the hat glory days will make a come back or not but I say wear what you like and be happy.

all the best,
Jason

I never wore a hat until recently. It's a low-profile tin cloth baesball cap from Filson.

But if I'm out in the forest or desert, I don't wear one.

Tilley hat wearer here. I have a couple in cotton canvas, one hemp. Been wearing them for years. Always have one when I am hiking. Had a great Stetson when I was a kid, and I have an o-fee-shal Indiana Jones Stetson I don't wear any more.

Lots of ball caps. In my rotation currently are my Jerzee Devil hat, a Spyderco hat, and a Native Pride hat. I've got a junker Nike hat in my truck.

For real hats, I have grown a fondness for fishermans caps. I was able to find one for about ten bucks at a discount store, name brand, forget the brand. When I was a kid, I used to have a fedora, and my fathers old cowboy hat.

I used to wear a cowboy hat all the time,I did go through a period of 5 or 6 years were I didn't wear a hat at all.Nowadays,it's usually a ballcap,I do have an OC outdoor hat that I wear when I'm in the sun,yea the hair is a lot thinner than it used to be.I still do have a felt Eddy,a leather outback that is my favorite but it's to hot in the summer and a straw hat that looks like the one Jack Roush always wears that I wear on occasion.

Baseball cap sometimes & I have a bunch, but I have a boonie hat I wear when I know I'll be out in the sun all say. I get a sunburn if I stand under a 100 watt bulb for too long.

I'm not really a hat guy but if its sunny when i hike i wear an inexpensive (10$) cotton Walmart Tilley knockoff. It was white (blindingly so) so i dyed it in a coffee soak for a day or so then a few cleansing rinses, now its a nice light brown. Of course a few weeks after i bought it they started stocking multiple colors. D'oh!
Someday i'll probably buy a Tilley.

Only for protection from something. I have an ancient (20 years?) Aussie-made straw that I wear to protect my balding scalp from the sun, and I favor watch-caps when it's cold.

Other than that....

Working at the university, I get awfully tired of frat boys with their backwards baseball hats. "Look at me! I'm a Frat Boy!...."

I've been wearing hats since high school. I wouldn't know what to do without one.

Have a Beretta waxed water resistant ball cap on as we speak.

BobW---seems the desert would be one of those times were you would really need a hat.

I wear hats pretty often.

At work: full brim hard hat. Keeps the sun off pretty well. Mine is white with lost of stickers on it.

At Play: baseball caps. My good one is LRG, but I have a couple Billabong and Quicksilver.

Dress up: I bought a beautiful wool felt trilby/fedora style hat. I wear it when I go out on the town, or to church. It is nice dark brown, with a feather in the band. I do notice that people do look twice at me. Not quite as much as when I wear my kilt, but more than normal. This is most likely because of my age, which is 19. Why cant a young man wear a nice hat?

Oh, and my hat fits in real well in the ska crowd. :D

...with a feather in the band. I do notice that people do look twice at me...

That's cause you're the king of swing, baby! (kidding)
A cliched old Koolah oilskin full-brimmer for me when I'm in the bush, or a trucker's/baseball when not.

Skin cancer is no joke. My dad worked in construction for years and never wore a hat and now he is paying the price.

Everyone should wear a hat when out in the sun- not for style, but for protection. When you are young you are forming the building blocks for skin cancer and you need to protect yourself.

I've been bald since I was nineteen. You better believe I wear a hat anytime I am going to be outside for more than fifteen seconds. Skin cancer isn't fun (voice of experience).

After surgery for melanoma, sarcoma, etc. I wear a Tilley.

They are the best. Skin cancer is not a joke. I was totally in the So Cal sun as a youth and now am paying the price.

Wear a hat and sunscreen. No not some baseball cap turned around ass backwards, but a full brim hat.

Tilley is the best. You get what you pay for.

You think Tilley is expensive, look for Panama.

Wear a hat, it is cool.

I know you said baseball caps dont count but I wear the same one every day. Its a green and yellow University of Oregon cap, I have been wearing them since highschool and am currently on my 3rd one.

Don't touch my Hat, my Horse, or my Woman and we'll get along fine, and in that order!
I have worn a cowboy hat since I was old enough to walk, and I don't ever see that changing. The only time I don't wear one is when I am SCUBA diving, at church, at the dinner table and when I'm sleeping. Man do I have hats that could tell stories....

I wear a fedora, or felt "Indiannia Jones" hat, or driving cap, or scout style cap (see Castro style cap), or one of many others. I feel naked with out a hat. I have an almost shaved head (although still have lots of hair, for now). I am concerned about skin cancer. My father has had several spots on his head removed, and I am already getting discoloration spots, so am trying to cover the dome up.

Full face helmet on the bike, straw or oilskin full brim outside, and a felt when up north for biz in winter.
