Do you wear a hat?

Tilley hat wearer here. I have a couple in cotton canvas, one hemp. Been wearing them for years. Always have one when I am hiking. Had a great Stetson when I was a kid, and I have an o-fee-shal Indiana Jones Stetson I don't wear any more.

The Tilley looks like a great hat to protect against falling precipitation, but doesn't the thick canvas retain too much heat for sunny summer hiking?

They have several different models that are lightweight and breath. Surprisingly, the regular Tilley breathes pretty well, also. I live in a very hot climate and have no problems wearing the T2 and T3 in 120 degree heat (it is a dry heat!).

I've got a punkin head, so finding a hat that doesn't look like a yarmulke on me has always been a problem.

Found Broner hats, got a boonie style, and got it.

Had it for a few years, then lost it. Seached for 3 months for the brand (had forgotten), then found the original online store.

Bought 2 to have a backup.

Fits well, wears well. Under $25 IIRC.

I wear a Straw or Palm Cowboy Hat all the time,Big belt buckle,Cowboy Boots, and 501's (yes, I wear Wranglers and Cinch as well). Met the love of my life at a Western Store in Pensacola FL. She used to work/model there. Live on 14 acres and am a member of the AQHA.

in 3 1/2 weeks(Start of the NFL Season) I will be sporting a Pittsburgh Steeler Baseball Cap. Are you ready for some FOOTBALL!?!

It will be upwards of 100 today here in Texas and I will be sporting a hemp Tilley. Way cooler than a ball cap and it has an internal sweat band that keeps the sweat outta my eyes. I really like that.

I was reading the Lone Ranger thread, and it mentioned that while hats were popular in years past, no one wears a hat anymore. AS so mamny past fads have come around again, I was wondering if the hat thing would come back?
I personally have a vintage 1800's Derby that i like to wear out on occasion.
I also have several custom made "welding caps" www.allamericanhats.com
Does anyone here wear a hat? I guess baseball style hats don't realy count.

In Florida's torrid months,I wear a pith helmet. The watermelon eating tree monkeys can pith all they want but I'm ptotected.

I gotta go do shift at the firehouse...yesterday in a city near me xcross the state line it was 125 degrees with the humidity added in..... heat warnings all over the gulf... lotta accidents like falling off roofs, elderly passing away, little fires and 'general illness' translating into "it is hot and I no feel too good" There isnt anything you can do or wear to make this bearable. Brutal. I'm whining, sorry. Gotta at least make an appearance at the Station. later.............

Once you sunburn the top of your head severely.... ya wear a hat any time you are outside!
I have a used to be nice straw cowboy hat.... I sweat soaked it and the color from the hatband ran into the straw and it looks like hell. Any ideas on how to clean this?

I have worn both on the trail. The hemp hat is much cooler than the canvas. I like to put a damp bandana in the top of the hat for evaporative cooling. Works great!

Tilley T3 or ball cap. I've just gotten into wearing the Tilley in the sun and it keeps me really cool and provides sun protection.

I hear you. When I was first stationed in Hawaii in the Navy, by the time I got from the airport to someplace I could buy a hat I had blisters on my scalp. Now I even wear a hat at night to prevent moonburn ;)

No ideas on cleaning. My straw hats don't last long enough to need it. Bleach might be able to remove the dye, but it might destroy the straw as well. Good luck.

you are more likely to see me without my pants then with out a hat. my edc. is a bailey crushable and when iam doing a show a bailey roswell xx gets the nod . sence i live and work in switzerland lets say its easy to spot me

I wear a hat everywhere but church. Ballcaps mostly, camo ofcourse. But i do have a collection of several cowboy hats straws and beaver.

I've got a straw Stetson Panama-styled hat for around town, a Tilley for hiking and walks, which I do a lot, and a Riverz ("straw" made out of hand-woven polypropelene) for raft trips.

In winter, usually only when skiing/sledding/ice skating at the pond.

I never wore a hat until recently. It's a low-profile tin cloth baesball cap from Filson.

But if I'm out in the forest or desert, I don't wear one.

-Bob

It seems to me..............that in the forest and especially the desert..........that's when you REALLY need a hat !

When I go into the woods, the sunglasses and hat come off. But I live in the NE where the thick forest typically blocks all direct sunlight.

I always wear a hat in the desert though. That one puzzles me as well.
