Do you worry about losing your knife?

Sometimes I find myself not carrying a particular knife because I'm afraid I might lose it for some reason. Usually if I think I'm going to have to stay the night somewhere, or go to Seattle, I tend to take a knife that I won't mind losing so much.

The only problem with that is that often times I'll wind up wishing that I had brought the other knife because I like it more. For example, I take my Case Trapper with me to Seattle since I figure there's no way it could be seen as illegal there, and because I sleep on my sister's couch there when visiting. The Trapper is like $30-$40 and I wouldn't mind losing that as much as say, my Benchmade Kulgera that would cost ~$150 for a new one.

Usually I'll carry it around on any "normal" day because I figure what's the point of having it if I'm not going to use it, but I still always worry that I'll sit down in a tight spot and it will become unclipped or something like that. There's always moments just sitting around my own living room where it I see it has fallen out of my pocket and working down the crack of the couch when I go, "Man, that would be easy to lose," and then I wind up carrying a totally different knife for a week despite the fact that I may not like that one as much.

So how do you guys deal with it? I find that I keep much better track of my expensive knives than any others I've owned, but it doesn't seem like enough. I still wind up having moments where I could have easily lost it. In the end I just say to heck with it and carry and hope I don't lose it. After all, I've carried more expensive items in the past without losing them.

ive had the same worries and have just decided either to make myself or have sheaths made for them, which IMO makes them more special

I never worry about this because usually I secure a knife pretty well especially when I'm sleeping. It's one of those items that if it were to unclip I am certain I would know right away.

Life is too short for such worries. I've lost knives and it sucks, but it is what it is.

I only worry about traditional pocket knives in loose front pockets. I've never had a problem with clipped knives.

I used to only carry my Kershaw's and CRKT's because I didn't want to possibly lose a $200+ Emerson/Benchmade, but I soon realized that I would much rather have a dependable knife with me at all times and lose it, then not have a dependable knife when I needed it...

Yeah, that's pretty much the way I feel about it. I mean, I'd like to think all my knives are dependable, but I especially like my Kulgera.

I would be a little less worried about if I could put it in my pocket, but I've even had stuff fall out from my pocket, plus I don't like to put knives in my pocket that only have pillar spacers because I don't like keys or change coming in through the back and riding on the blade--they can do some nasty damage if you sit on them the right way.

i work in a warehouse and i find myself continuously checking my pocket line to make sure my knife is still clipped on, sometimes when opening a box i'll lay it down and somehow they always grow legs and run away when i go looking for it. its become a habit. i love my knives too much to be losing one!!!! haha

I always pull my knife out of my pocket and just kinda drop it in my pocket. then when I dont see the clip I tend to panic.

I thought I would feel a little strange the first time I EDC a $375 knife... but I just feel for in my pocket once in a while and I'm okay. It would suck to lose one though. When I add up what is actually part of my EDC regiment then I start worrying a little.
$375 pocket knife
$75 necker
$100 keychain knife
$75 keychain flashlight
$400 flashlight
$150 bracelet
$1800 wedding ring
$525 handgun
$150 holster

Damn .....

Do you worry about losing your knife?

So how do you guys deal with it?

I've lost lots of knives over the past 50 years that I've been carrying them. Used up or dinged up others. IMO, it kind of comes with the territory of carrying a knife. Stuff happens to them.

For me a knife is a tool. And I won't buy a tool that I won't carry or use. So I buy knives that do not cost more than I am willing to put at risk, but which perform well.

As I've gotten older, my pricepoint of what I am willing to risk in my pocket has increased. Part of that is inflation. Part is that I'm now older and have more money to spend. These days that's about $80. Since there's lots of good knives at or below that, it really becomes a non-issue.

I worry about it all the time. But I still cary them. My most carried edc is a Busse BAD. If lost it would probably cost me $300 to replace it. Not "High End" by a lot of people's standards on here. I have carried $2500+ in knives out in the woods + a $1000 gun in the woods before, so it is a worry. I would be sick, and probably never recover if I lost a nice knife or gun.

That said, I also have inexpensive knives that get use and carry time. Not too worried about loosing a $30 knife.

One thing I have done before is to take my knife and actually tie the lanyard off. Also I can tuck the lanyard behind and underneath the belt.

If I am really concerned (like fishing, or rafting or another active scenario) I have a pistol retention lanyard. Run the loop through the lanyard hole on the back of the knife, put the velcro keeper on the belt and whammo! No need to worry about the knife going in the drink while fishing!

When I used to carry a Strider I worried about it constantly. So I had to eventually stop carrying it. I carry primarily Emersons now, they still arent the cheapest but a $150 loss doesn't hurt near as bad as a $450 loss.
When I am going to work EMS I keep my knife in a case and I dont worry about it and when I work a an electricians assistant I keep a cheapo S&W and dont really care if I lose it or not.lol

Nope. I never worry about losing the SAK Farmer that I EDC.

Every time I stick my hand in my pocket and don't pull out a knife I worry about losin' it, some times the feelin' lasts as little as 5 minutes or as long as 5 years, until I replace the missin' knife by findin' it or replacin' it.

Usually I just have to back track to the last thing I cut.

I usually misplace more knives than I've lost, I can only remember one knife I lost, an AG Russell One Hand Knife, bought from the man himself at the first East Coast Knife Show in Jersey all the rest 'cept one, a small Red Micarta David Wilson Folder, (which I still believe will show up in the house someday) have showed up one place or another.
